UH Records

Was curious what records might be broken this year? Are there any career marks that might fall?

The senior class could go out with more wins than any other at UH in a 4 year period. Currently 2016 holds the mark with 38. 2017 Seniors are sitting on 30 wins in the last 3 years.

30 or more wins in 4 year periods at UH (end year):

38 - 2017
36 - 2011, 2009, & 1979
34 - 2015, 2014, 1981, 1974, & 1973
33 - 2012 & 1980
32 - 2008, 1991, 1990, 1972. * 1971
31 - 2013, 2010, & 1976
30 - 1982, 1970, & 1969

Side note 1: The older numbers are more impressive due to fewer regular season games, fewer available bowls and no conference championship games. For instance, 1979 would surely be the top with 40 or more if there were 12 games schedules and conf championship games back then. They’d have been in 3 champ games! Potentially might have racked up 43 wins.

Side note 2: Including 2017 UH has had 10 straight years of 4 year 30 or better win totals. Nice run.

Side note 3: Deleted.

I see 2014 listed twice. Is that a typo for 2015? Where is 2016?

I answered the last question myself when I reread your opening statement. Many typos in the list though.

Looking through the record book (updating as I find realistic chances):

  • Need To beat Rice to tie the record for most consecutive home wins in program history, and then beat Tech to break it - (18 from '07-'10)

  • haven’t been shutout in 197 games, dating back to 2000, which is already the longest streak in program history.

  • Bonner and Dunbar are currently 29th and 33rd on the career receiving yards list. If either can get close to 1000 yards receiving this year, they’ll move into the top 10.

  • Bonner and Dunbar are currently 23rd and 31st on the career receptions list. Bonner needs 38 to move into 9th place and Dunbar needs 57 to do the same. There’s a big jump after that to Deontae Greenberry, but if Bonner can replicate his catch total from last year, he has a shot at moving into the top 5 all-time.

  • Bonner is one of 13 Coogs to have a 200 yard receiving game. Only 3 have had more than one in their career (Wright-4, Hazard-3 Phillips-2).

  • Dane Roy is currently 7th all-time for punting average. Still 3 years to go on this one.

  • Ed Oliver tied for the 3rd most TFL in a season last year; if he does something similar, he should move into the Top 6 all-time.

Rice and TT

I knew I came to the right place for this question. Thanks pray10.

What’s the UH career TFL record? Can EO get there in 3 years?

He can definitely get there. Record is 66 by TJ Turner from '82-'85.

I’d also watch how many fumbles he forces. He forced 3 last year, the career record is 10 by Leonard Mitchell from '77-'80.

I saw somewhere that they plan on moving Big Ed around this year, including rushing off the edge. He really could be the next Aaron Donald or JJ Watt. His versatility, strength and agility are unreal. Couple all of that with his motor and intense desire to keep improving…I can’t even fathom what we’re going to see from him the next 2 years.

Definitely, last year he admitted he didn’t know what he was doing most of the time. Now that he has a year under his belt, he should be terrifying for opposing teams.

Leonard Mitchell would swing that huge arm down and knock that ball out. Kelly Tripuka experienced it first hand on the basketball court.
