If the Coogs had won last night, they would be in 2nd right now with an RPI of 34. Instead, they fell back into 4th with an RPI of 37.
A loss today would put the Coogs in a tie with UCONN, potentially in 5th (we’d lose the tiebreaker so we’d be in 6th),and only a game up on next week’s opponent, UCF. It would also put Tulane 1 1/2 games up for 2nd place with one weekend to go. We’d also likely drop into the 40’s for RPI and our tourney chances would be dwindling.
Coogs can’t catch Tulane this weekend, but a win puts them a half game back and potentially into 3rd in the conference depending on what Cincy does today. ECU’s already clinched the conference title, so we want to be in the 2nd or 3rd seed heading into the tourney to avoid the Pirates. RPI would probably stay at or near 37 with a win.
Would it really hurt the AAC to rescind Davis suspension for Senior Day? It’s been a very frustrating weekend. I hope Whitting at least made a phone call to appeal.
1 out HBP and a 2 base error on Triolo puts runners on 2nd and 3rd. Coogs intentionally walk Hoese to load the bases. That’s it for Randel, Bond coming in.
Lineout to Triolo. Single to right scores 2, runners on the corners…Coogs lead 3-2
Hate bringing it up again, but if you don’t pitch Villarreal in the 10th last night in a tie game, you have him here. Hopefully, it works out, but I still can’t believe we brought him back in Game 2 last night, after he threw in Game 1…in a situation that didn’t need a closer.
Triolo leadoff single. Burckel strikes out on fouls trying to bunt. Cherry single puts runners on the corners. Squeeze scores Triolo, Cherry to 2nd…Coogs lead 4-2
We own the tiebreaker over Cincy, but do not own the tiebreaker over UCONN. Tulane and Memphis had one game cancelled so it’ll be hard to tie with them. Still shooting for 2nd or 3rd seed to avoid ECU until the final.
