JD gets the details of what we’re paying to play at TSU this year. Also had a quote in there from CKS saying he’s the one that nixed any games at the Toyota Center.

McClelland said the cost UH is paying to rent H&PE Arena “is nowhere near what they would have paid at Toyota Center or anywhere else.”

As part of the agreement, UH is paying a rental fee of $3,375 per game, which comes out to $50,625 for the season. The deal also includes a $350,000 payout to TSU, a FCS school, to play a non-conference football game Sept. 29 at TDECU Stadium.

“We got the (rental fee) down to the bare bones as we possibly could because of the relationship,” McClelland said. “We reduced a lot of the costs.”

Playing TSU in football hurts our SOS as we should only schedule D1 teams even if they are lower level (MAC, CUSA, Sun Belt, etc). I would have rather played them in basketball once a year for ten years…

Agreed. Still like the idea of a Houston classic with basketball where TSU, Rice, SHSU, HBU, A&M, PVA&M and some other relatively local schools play a tourney each year.
