Behind another five-set, comeback effort, the University of Houston Volleyball team continued its undefeated start to American Athletic Conference play with a 3-2 (25-22, 18-25, 17-25, 25-16, 15-12) victory over Tulane on Friday night.
With the win over the Green Wave (11-4, 2-1 American), the Cougars (9-9, 3-0 American) are off to their best start in conference play since 2013. Houston has also won its past four matches, all of which have gone the distance.
Friday night saw Houston’s defense on display, as the Cougars held the Green Wave to a .112 hitting percentage, which is a season-low for Tulane. Houston’s 11 blocks in the contest is also tied for the most an opponent has posted against Tulane this season.

Congrats ladies!
Ok, the 5 set thing is getting a little crazy, but the Coogs keep winning. Went up 2-0, Temple win the next 2, and the Coogs finished them off in 5.
4-0 in conference now.
Impressive coaching. This is basically the same team as last year, is it not? I confess to not know much about the sport but I do take notice of such a quick turnaround.
Wow the team just seemed to be in an adjustment period at the beginning of the season because now they look to be going on all cylandiers. This new coach seems to be the real deal as advertised. The program should only get better as coach gets his recruits over the next couple of years!
Good coaching will do that to you! But, we also have some good senior leadership with “hungry” players
Yep, we have 4 strong seniors on this squad that have really stepped up their game. Karbo and Duncan have been fantastic.
Crazy thing, this is a young team with some talent and some good recruits coming in.
For the first time since 2001, the University of Houston Volleyball team is 4-0 to start conference play, after the Cougars claimed a 3-2 (25-22, 25-21, 23-25, 11-25, 15-12) victory over Temple on Sunday afternoon.
With the win, the Cougars (10-9, 4-0 American) have won 10 of their last 15 contests, including five in a row. All five of Houston’s wins during its current streak have come in five-set fashion. Overall, the Cougars have competed in six consecutive five-set matches.
