Career performances from junior setter Abby Irvine and freshman outside hitter Abbie Jackson paced the University of Houston Volleyball team to a 3-1 (19-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-21) victory over UTSA on Friday afternoon in the UTSA Classic opener.

Irvine dished out 50 assists, marking the most helpers in a four-set match since Keandra McCardell posted 51 against Memphis in 2014. Irvine also recorded 11 digs, marking her second double-double of the season and 27th of her career.

After setting a career-high 25 kills against McNeese on Tuesday, Jackson topped that mark on Friday afternoon with a career-high 30 kills. That number is tied for the fourth-most in a four-set match in program history. Jackson has surpassed the 20-kill mark plateau in three of her past four matches.

As a team, the Cougars (2-4) out-hit the Roadrunners (1-3) by 14 kills, 61-47. Houston also recorded more digs than UTSA, as senior libero Katie Karbo’s 18 digs led all players. She was one of three Cougars to eclipse the double-figure digs, with Irvine and senior outside hitter Claire Karsten also exceeding that mark.
