Soccer opens up, August 19th at home vs Oklahoma. Hearing that the team overall is in best preseason condition in at least the last 4 seasons. Practice begins next week. First exhibition is August 12th. Top non-conference games are opener vs Oklahoma then @TCU.
Looks like a big game for the futbol femmes tonight. Apparently, the only once beaten soccer team (6-1-1), opens conference play against the 14th ranked Mousketeers of UCF. Coogs host at Carl Lewis field. Game time 7 pm. Available on ESPN+.
UCF had beaten OleMiss, Penn State, Florida, and Texas coming into that match. Sitting at 9-1-1 now, it gets real. Tomorrow night they play at USF, then Sunday at #8 TCU, then play at #24 SMU next Thursday. If they can get 1 victory in those 3, preferably USF or SMU, they can be 10-3-1 and 2-1-0 in conference. That would exceed expectations greatly. As the announcer said on air last week, “Coach Diego program has turned from rebuilding to reloading”. There are alot of quality players getting lower minutes simply because the cupboard is full. That’s a fantastic problem as they have been able to slowly bring along fresh faces instead of throwing them into the fire from the beginning.
USF has 89th minute penalty kick to tie the Coogs 1-1. No scoring in two ot’s. Would have been a nice one to hold on to, but will still take a road tie.
