Newhouse came out of Hallsville.
People forget how good the football was in the SWAC before schools really started to recruit black athletes.
Growing up in NY and getting NYC TV stations (all 5 of them) on Sunday mornings there were 2 college shows. Notre Dame highlights and Grambling highlights. As a kid, I looked forward to the GRambling show because of the way fans acted in the stands after a score. Just crazy.
NY didnât have much college and Notre Dame was pretty much the only college people paid attention to. Pro football was the game back then.
Thatâs part of the underlying fear some folks still have - they know the campus culture a lot of P5 schools and if things somewhat evened our players will resort to comfort zones. Thatâs why I think itâs all a conspiracy as certain coaches with certain ties get to head certain high school programs with major talent annually to ensure they steer the ship for certain colleges.
prior to the transfer portal some coaches went out their way to stop transfers from going swac and seeing them succeed. Saban at LSU killed that as a lot of LSU players were going to Southern and excelling and getting the same coverage and people started asking what happened. Ryan Perrilloux was told in so many ways to not even deal with swac and they sent him to Jacksonville State thanks to a les miles deal with the coach. Tyrann Mathieu was told to go to McNeese first before he sat it out.
You donât see a Texas A&M pipeline to PV or even UH to TSU oddly enough when things donât work out. That should be natural but some folks want the so far away in FCS oblivion itâs obvious
