World Cup

Running clock and play clock starts immediately after the previous play. Still have timeouts and end of quarter stoppages. You could even consider additional time outs and those would be used for injuries as well.

How is USA doing?

Each team gets the ball 10 times, sort of like boxing. 5 minutes to score or turn the ball over. One minute breaks between each offensive opportunity. Let’s make the game really fast so we can all beat the traffic leaving the stadium . . . . .

didn’t even make the tourney. Bombed out in the qualifiers.

Nah, we only get 13 of them a year

Now that we have gotten to the knockout stage there have been quite a bit of games going extra time with penalties and with large stoppage time added. Count in half time and the time before extra time (and between) and you have had some games close to 3 hours.

The not having commercial breaks every 5 mins is the best thing. If soccer is able to generate so much money with tv revenue not having any commercials for over 45 mins at a time, surely college football could come up with a way to just do it between quarters. I wouldn’t mind seeing a company’s logo in the top right of the screen if it meant fewer commercial breaks.
