18th Senior Showcase

Hard to believe it has been 18 years since we started this at the humble site of Milby High.

At last check, we had 42 colleges and over 825 kids registered.

The Texans have become a wonderful partner and have helped grow this in many ways. They used our model to create a similar event for girls flag football which is growing faster than any other woman’s sport. We’ll have 35 colleges for the women.

So, do the non-D1 schools have a lot of scouts there? About how many schools do you think are represented each year. That is a wonderful event that helps kids get an education.

I used to go to the combine when UH hosted it during the Briles’ years when I was playing high school football.

800 kids will represent over 100 schools. We’ll get them from the Valley to Oklahoma & Louisiana. Even had a group of 8 from Panama 4 years ago.

That’s great, but what I was asking about is how many colleges will have scouts there? Also, are there any FCS or BCS level colleges represented?

Channel 2 led the Saturday Sports segment with the Texans hosting the female flag football showcase. Said 35 schools in attendance. Interviewed Hannah McNair, owner Cal McNair’s wife.

Good publicity. I didn’t realize how popular female flag football has become.

The girls were outside. QBs struggled in the wind.

The boys were inside. Over 500 total. Biggest number ever. We had over 40 colleges. Most D3 & NAIA. Because it was before signing day, we had Houston Christian there. We expect over 300 kids will get offers.

One kid, 6’4" probably 260, really well built had a red shirt (academic high achiever) was very popular. I asked how many offers he received, “I’ve lost count, I have so many!”

Jermaine Alfred of Baytown Lee & Baylor was out helping Dick Olin coach QBs. Made me feel old…er, his son is a junior QB

After the last 2 years, it’s obvious the portal is taking a toll. Our numbers are up 25% and the talent level has risen too.

Just reviewed our registration. Had kids from Florida, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Illinois, Maryland, Virginia and New Mexico sign up

I’d guess 300 different high schools. Had to look up about 2 dozen to see where they were

This event is beginning to grow nationally
