1995 Rockets Game 4

I was in high school, junior year. College basketball was a blip on my sports radar. I was watching the replay earlier today on NBA tv.

With about 3:30 left Alberts starts talking about Drexler being a 12 year pro, 8 time all star, in his third finals. Grew up in Houston. Sterling high school. University of Houston. Didn’t get it done but now looks like he will be a Houston champ. It was only a decade after PSJ.

With about 2 minutes left they pan to an old guy in a suit in a box. He has the biggest old man smile. The announcer mentions, ‘and there is Guy Lewis you know he is proud.’

That was an awesome night. At 16 my parents, 1995 was wild, let me take the old Chevy cavalier out that night and took friends down to celebrate on Richmond avenue. A bunch of md2020 and boones went down that night.

30 years since that happened. In 1995 that would be like looking back on Bill and the Celtics in 1965. That was ancient to 16 year old me.

Good times. Thank god we didn’t have camera phones!

I went to work at 11pm on the night shift that night. Everyone was flashing their lights down 45 a n d 610. What a run!

I was 17 and drove from Spring to Richmond Ave in my old Toyota T100. Had a helluva night.

It sounds like Richmond was the spot back then.

Yes, here is a pic from the Chron

It was an absolute chaos of celebration from Richmond at the the loop to well past Richmond and Chimmney rock. Bascially like Bourbon St on Fat Tuesday, but with cars. It was wild.

I walked it. It was bumper to bumper barely inching along. Remember this was only Houston’s 2nd championship. Someone had dropped a cell phone, it was the size of a walkie talkie, i had never used one before so i left messages on every number i could remember. Back then you actually remembered your friends and families phone numbers. It was a different time

I watched Game 7 of the 1994 Finals at Dave and Buster’s on Richmond, which has since closed. When they won, we all poured into the street and stayed there all night. The party went on on the Richmond strip, as they called it, for the entire weekend. Good times.

I can’t even watch the Rockets anymore. Nothing but 3 pointers and out-of-control drives to the basket.

I stopped and put white shoe policy that said FUQ SHAQ on my back window. When I came to the next morning back in Pearland my dad made me wash both cars, mow the lawn, and till all the flower beds. Worth it!

Made out with Windy Walker that night. God the memories!
