2024-2025 CFP & Bowl Games Thread

Hard to argue over a game that never happened. We can agree to disagree.

With Michigan’s wins over both Alabama and Ohio State, I think it’s fair to say that they should’ve gotten in the CFP over SMU and Indiana

The committee should’ve known this before week 13, shame on them. In fact, going forward I think the CFP seeding should already be set in place before week 0

At 7-5, not a chance…

So we give more berths to the SEC then? This is an experimental format - maybe the bye doesn’t help teams like we think and it’s baker matchups as a Big 10 team like Penn State plays the run better than normal

It’s hard to judge this on a one year cycle -

But the greed from certain folks will change it before we even notice anything to skew numbers

Starting to feel like the CFP is a giant mistake.

It’s a meaningless tournament that primarily exists to make money for networks. The difference between football and basketball is that basketball is no where near as expensive, which is why March Madness is able to include so many non-P4 schools in the tournament.

Football is an expensive sport, and most schools outside the P4 do not have the resources to compete with CFP contenders, which is why a tournament with all D1 conferences champions is a waste of time.

The college football season should really end with conferences championship games, but there’s too much money being left off the table to not have a post-season, even if the system is lopsided

I think 1000% the cure is all conference champs in, and you get to host a 16 seed as a 1 seed. But in saying that even 16 seeds can be nasty

Ive usually thought this was silly, but I will say that this year the ā€œAlabama deserves to be in every year no matter whatā€ crowd sure had a bad year! So I actually kinda like the idea.

Not that anyone over at ESPN or FOX is going to let facts get in the way of their SEC or Big 10 bias, but its been fun to see nonetheless.

You like the idea of mimicking college basketball and adding all conference champs, or that Bama crowd had a bad year haha?

I wouldve had ISU in over bama all day btw

I wonder if they will play the Sugar Bowl today?

it was always about money, college football is just willing to throw nearly everything about college football that makes it really good aside for the money now, the first 4 team national championship probably drove in the final nail. its semi pro ball now with better pay, ufl playes dont make what many collage players do now.

watched a little of the bama - michigan game. 1st quarter in driving rain; looks to have given michigan its early lead. can’t blame a loss on the weather but i’m not judging bama on its bowl game; blaming their post season chances for their ou loss; very justified.

From ESPN….
New Orleans’ police commissioner said the Sugar Bowl will be played as scheduled Wednesday night amid an investigation after a driver in a pickup truck plowed through crowds on Bourbon Street, killing 10 and injuring at least 35.

Worst take I’ve read on here. Just like when you thought UH should have gone to the Pac 12.

He was mean to Rudy.

That was just in the movie. Irl it was his idea for him to suit up and play

Let’s all be honest and admit that the SEC was terrible this year and that is why mediocre teams like Tennessee and UGA were able to get in. No way Bama deserved to be on the same field as any of these teams in the CFP. In fact, you could make a strong argument that Miami or Iowa State should have gotten in over Tennessee. I will give UGA a spot because they won the SEC, and I guess Texas because they only lost twice to the same team, but that’s it. Some fools here in Atlanta were arguing with me saying South Cacalacky should have gotten in. Please!

All those first round losers were at opposing teams’ home stadiums. Some in frigid cold which SMU in particular isn’t used to. UTK showed well attendance wise but still at the Shoe. ND is well ND. They lost to NIU at home early in the year.

Personally, I’m also a fan of just letting the National Championship be mythical again. I think there’s a lot of charm lost in the playoff era; games like the Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl shouldn’t be Just Another Playoff Game. Being able to look forward for a month to what was ultimately an exhibition game that celebrated your team’s season was special, and that’s been almost completely lost. When the Coogs made the Peach Bowl in 2015, I wouldn’t have missed it for the world, and it was a highlight of my time watching them. Now? I probably wouldn’t go. If we lose, I’d have blown a bunch of money on a disappointing result, and if we win, there’s another, bigger game the next week.

We’re gutting one of the experiences that’s always made college football special in favor of a made-for-TV event designed to appeal to dudes sitting on their couches that treat the College Football season like it starts in December and ends in January. I hate it.
