2024-2025 Houston Cougars Basketball Season

I would not be opposed if both TA & Sharp sit out or play limited minutes in the conference tournament and give the minutes to Mylik & Mercy…

bout to say something that might catch me some slander here

after the season it might be smart for jefferson and ramon to follow quannas … seems like a major win for all parties… players getting major pt and major opportunity to be offensive players… quannas gets major additions with players who already know our system, and major culture guys who can show the standard to the noin-uh players …as a program its not a major L or plus for us… but itll make it easier for us as fans to watch and support Ulala since we love ramon.

and we had this debate last year, when i said i could ramon becoming a star in a smaller program (he did 27 a game in high school)… and a few people disagreed saying he is just a glue guy… when i watch him in the pro-am this summer and he was the leading scorer for his team (that had sharp) i feel stronger he could be a star in a smaller program. if he went with quannas i wouldn’t be shock if he was a top 3 scorer for them (if not #1)
i think being in a rebuilding program where there is no expectation as a team, no risk to be benched on small mistakes, and higher individual responsibilities (it would be ramons team ) will do him wanders

Hmmm.

Sampson has said we have a plan for each player. We have a plan for Jefferson.

If Jefferson leaves UH, hes playing at a mid major next yr as a sophomore. With the ultimate goal to transfer back up to P5 basketball. Doesn’t make sense to leave.

Ced Lath, would be a possible guy to transfer down. Cause he just needs game reps. Very raw compared to KJ

From what we’ve seen from KJ, decent jump shot, and high motor player. Hes been waiting his time for 2 yrs

I understand your point though. Is he your 3rd string PG on the depth chart next chart?

Once a player commits to play for UH I want them to be Coogs for life. I’ll never wish for a kid to transfer out. Seems tacky to me.

If we win it all I could see Ramon going… if not I think he runs it back here assuming he gets the red shirt.

Seems like it would be a smart decision for Ramon to try to get as much PT as possible if he wants an overseas career after UH.

Jefferson has 3 more years and is supposed to be a dog on defense… I don’t think he’d be ready to throw in the towel on getting PT here yet…

Coog for life but these kids are trying to earn a living playing basketball somewhere. They ultimately need to do what’s best for them. I can see Pesik point.

Jefferson is only a frosh, though… imo he only transfers if CKS tells him he should…

Let’s see… Sharp, Arc, Harwell, Jackson, Miller is his competition for PT…

Sharp, Arc and maaaayybbbee Harwell are gone after next season depending on how good the true frosh is…

If he stays he could be setup to be a significant contributor his junior and senior years.

“tacky” - seeing a kid that you like that is projected 12th in rotation, hoping they could go somewhere so they can be a star …and potentially put out tape to get the best pro career they can for them and their families

you dont see us ever getting any new high school players again?

Lath will never play meaning fun minutes at UH

Jefferson will probably not either. They will always have players come in better than them. Think Cedric Alley.

What is that supposed to mean?

It means that your situation is accurate if we don’t get great incoming freshmen. But we do and that may limit that scenario from playing out

players like McCarty, who you may have already forgotten about since you didnt list him as a wing

How do you know how good Jefferson is… you’re comparing him to Ced who got lots of PT his frosh season and you haven’t even seen Jefferson play…

Ramon is necessary as a culture guy. You need some deep experience in the 4/5 group. Fabian, Reggie, J’Wan, and now Ramon to carry that on.

He’s not leaving. I don’t think Kordel is, but you never know. Quannas isn’t asking anyone to follow him without the blessing of Kelvin.

Edit: I’ve seen Kellen put in a ton of hours with Ramon over the past few months - post-practice and few hours before games. He isn’t doing that to help him in Lafayette.

What is the likelihood of any frosh coming in and starting over a 3 year veteran guard in this program…

It can happen… but it’s not common.

wouldnt have to be a frosh. could be a 2nd year guy we got 26-27. To be clear, Im not saying it is going to happen. Im just saying there are a few ways it could happen

Mccarty top 70 4star that is 6’6…
and then we have the portal and hs recruits

also i feel we have made sampson and the program infallible and only what we want really matters. sampson/Houston has only lost 3 major rotation players to the portal the last 6 years (extremely good and 1 wasn’t even upsetting) something coach has stated… for that reason i can confidently say i don’t expect sharp or tugler in the portal … i think our fans have used that to justify no one ever leaving unless we want even deep bench players… ramon is a rare case not the norm… Also id maybe by your case if it was JUST kord, (you think specifically kord will stay but others transfer) but you have this belief for all the players, that they will all stay regardless unless we want them to leave

uconn coach did an interview last week, said 50% of his roster has already told him they will be in the portal, some even know the destination and nil packagesl talking about the nature of the sport … uconn is like us where they almost never lose rotation player

And we aren’t going to see Jefferson play. What year do you think Jefferson is cracking the rotation?

Like I said above… possibly his junior year as I believe in CKS player development…

See Mylik Wilson this year…

we put in a TON of houston hours on kiyron powell and brison greshem before they left too

Ramon is not Fabian, Reggie, or J’Wan… who are all natural bigs
Ramon was classified the same as Terrance in practice and where in the same position group in practice… … but the reason ramon played the 4/5 was because that was the only place he could find minutes… ramon is a wing … ramons is likely to measures 6’4 in a combine setting …

for Houston, i dont want us to play undersized (positional length is the selling point for next years team, like duke this year)… for him that is not his natural position…

I posted this in the offseason: it is ramon in the Houston pro-am … where he was his teams leading scorer (that had 3 other UH players, including sharp)…he did not play a single minute in the post, and regularly played point

ramon is a culture guy so i could see him staying, i just think the minutes would be sparse
