2024-2025 Houston Cougars Basketball Season

It’s a diss to Kansas because he’s selling some of his jerseys firsthand instead of making a deal with a retailer that will sell them or auction them off?

If he wants to get rid of a few jerseys and knows they have some value, then why would he not sell them to fans that would pay to have them? He’s not obligated to keep them. Players sell game worn jerseys all the time. It’s not that deep.

Why else would he write Houston Meltdown Edition…? That will definitely make KU fans want to buy it…

And out of all of your jerseys to sell you sell your senior night jersey after being a fan your whole life…?

This guy is estimated to have made multi-millions in NIL but, yeah… he probably just wants to squeeze an extra $50 out of these jerseys by not using an auction house/retailer…

Either way we’re both speculating here… In my world he’s saying I don’t give a damn about these KU jerseys anymore.

I just kind of assumed players kept their unis after they were done playing but Arceneaux and Uzan’s were used by Pop and Sahko on their visits. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Did they not have a meltdown against us? lol of course a Kansas player calls it the Houston Meltdown game. Hunter Dickinson has described it similarly when he’s talked about it. I’m not sure how that’s supposed to be a dig at KU when Mayo was quite famously (or infamously rather to some) a pivotal part of that late game meltdown.

He has a whole framed jersey as a memento from his senior night. I’m not seeing that particular item for sale. Just because he values an item less than you or others would is not indication of inherent or intentional insult. At the end of the day he’s giving opportunities to his fans to have some memorabilia. I think it’s a wild take unsupported by logic or anything Mayo has actually said to spin this negatively and say he’s insulting Kansas.

I think you’re right and after all the hate he received from that fan base, I don’t blame him for taking a jab at them in his way out. I’m sure that fan base has lots of good fans but their online presence is super toxic.

UH should blow up that picture of Mayo’s “Houston Meltdown” jersey and display it in the Performance Center so every recruit sees it. Dispell the Kansas myth.

Blow up an insta post on the wall? Nah that would be a kinda weird flex. B12 hardware does the work well enough without doing that kind of stuff

What happened to Mayo is just preparing him for the NBA.

“I just left my office,” Espada said upon sitting down for his postgame media availability, “and it’s very unfortunate that Lance McCullers … that there are people who are threatening his life and the life of his kids because of his performance tonight. It’s very unfortunate that we have to deal with this – after all he’s done for this city, for this team.

Sounds a like sports bettor.

Texans, Rockets, Astros, Houston fans have never made threats to players.

Maybe our QBs go some heat, but never this bad.

Very sad for Lance & his family

Just guessing here but, wasn’t that (Reed Arena) the “leverage” that was used to keep UH out of the original Big XII?

What was the award?

Naismith Defensive POY Finalist - Tugler

Naismith Coach of the Year Finalist - Sampson

Looks like Flagg locked up (defended) the entire ACC… j/k

IIRC, allegedly the lawmakers in Austin threatened to withhold approval of the funding of Reed Arena if the Aggies didn’t cooperate with UT’s wishes. However, it may have been in connection with a prospective move of ATM (and possibly UH) to the SEC prior to formation of the Big12.

[NOTE: If what I heard at the time was true, the naming rights gift of ~$20 million from Chester Reed was funded primarily from the settlement of a lawsuit by Reed against the Prudential Insurance Company in connection with the development of City West Joint Venture, a project which encompassed the 80 acres at the northwest corner of Westheimer and Beltway 8 (the Sam Houston Tollway).]

Let’s change that “unprecedented interest from corporate sponsors” to “unprecedented financial support from corporate sponsors.”
