I think people expected too much from Walker because we’d never had a five star freshman under Sampson. He replaced just about all of Fabian’s production from the year before. Don’t think it was reasonable to expect any more than that.

Golden Andy!
Some things that caught my attention.

Seems like LJ will be an all summer rehab
Roberts is already back
TA will join the team early July.

Some told TA we don’t have any 7 footers
Milos didn’t get the memo that he can’t shoot.

Sorry for getting greedy but is this 7 down and 7 to go for tomorrow?

Jefferson oozes intensity. I don’t know where that fits in next year but he has the feel of a player who’s going to be an absolute day ruiner for whoever he’s playing against. I like it.

Unfortunately not. These were the only players who spoke yesterday. There will be another availability at a later date.

Not gonna go any deeper on this. But if I’m going to win 1 game with a good team around them and needing a PG, I swear to god I wouldn’t pick Uzan it would be jizzle

Jizzle is a gamer. No longer a freshman and man when he was given the reins, he killed it.

But the harsh reality is… if you look at the in conference offensive rating of all the starting PG in the big 12, dayday & Uzan are two of the worst PG in the conference. Houston went from the best to now one of the 3 worst players in the league running the point

Same could be said for UC. Dayday cannot be the best pg on this team. It needs to be jizzle. Day day has an awful in conference season. So did uzan

Reality is best case scenario is that miller & Jizzle shove both those guys to the bench where they belong in the big 12

Mercy isn’t a PG.

Geez maybe it is time to carry your argument to the Cincy board where you can at least get likes.
Can’t wait to see Uzan matchup with everyone including Jizzle

you probably dont remember this but you had a similar rant against galen robinson entering his senior year and called him one of the worst players in the nation… (in your PER is everything era)…and at the time you judged defense on steals per, so you also said he wasnt good on defense, and we’d ahve debates about this… i dont think your are good at evaluating PGs

jizzle is not a good play maker, ā€œwhen he was given the reinsā€ lets look at the last 8 games when he was given starter minutes… he averaged 27mins a game, but only 1.8 assists, 20% from 3 , on 14pts per… there is no notable stat line from him except short mid range percentage …shifty mid range shooter is nice but that isnt the strength id want from my PG

i know you are biased for things you like at UC, but everyone not you would take the drastically better playmaker, with 2 years starting experience, when building a team

i just thought of a good comp: its like being asked who you’d want as your starting pg, tramon mark or jamal shead… this is an exaggerated comparison and the hieghts are flips … but tramons strengths are identical to jizzle and jamal strenghts are indentical to uzan (obviously tramon and shead are better, just stating their on paper strength )

You love UC and I’m glad you like your players more than ours.

The interviews all are on YouTube, as well as a 40+ minute Sampson interview.

Who gives a crap who you would take, That opinion is irrelevant here as we have Uzan.

Uzan and his Dad chose University of Houston to get better. Thankfully we have the Coach of the Year and top 10 division 1 most impactful strength and conditioning coach located in the same building. Your assessment is incomplete

I was chopping up some films on the players and just wanted to note a few things I observed while making the tapes:

LJ - He is a better passer than he is given credit for, especially when you look at the film from the beginning of the year. I know there is not much faith in him as a PG, but I think if he were given time to fully adjust, he could play some PG. He isn’t in many All-American conversations or top 15 best players conversations now (or any UH player), which to me is odd. Even some of our fans say Sharp will be our top player, but if LJ takes our average ā€œsecond-yearā€ jump, he will be our third straight All-American.

Jwan - I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again: if Jwan shoots enough 3s to be defended at the 3pt line, then Jwan will be an All-American and will be debated as the best PF in the country. Jwan would become an unstoppable mismatch. He has already mastered scoring on players he is stronger than (which is normally the harder part to learn in the mismatch), but if he can learn to shoot over the 250 lbs elite shot blockers who can’t defend the perimeter, no one will be able to stop him. He would instantly become our scoring drought killer. There’s also the aspect of floor spacing (Iowa State doubled the post, and we could barely score on them, but teams with stretch 4s scored on them with ease, look at BYU and Illinois). The first two points I’ve mentioned before, but this last point is new: I think Jwan could be a good point forward. One of his underrated skill sets is passing. If he can lure shot blockers out of the post, he is a good enough passer to hit cutting players in the now defenseless post. I dont think his PPG or shooting percentages would go up shooting threes, but his assists and the overall teams shooting percentages would spike

Sharp - I don’t know if it’s possible to improve your handles and agility significantly, but Sharp with improved handles is unguardable. His release is too quick, and he is so strong down low. Not just as a scorer too, his season-wide passing stats are bad. 0.9 assists in 28 minutes is actually very bad for a guard. But if you watch film, he is actually a great playmaker. The issue is the handles/agility; he is rarely in situations to playmake. He is rarely in a position where he has beaten his defender, help comes, and he can pass to the open man. He is shooting over you or bowling through you. I’m not sure if handles and agility are things that can improve that much, but it’s something to keep an eye on, He is all-world if he can level up there.

Tugler - He isn’t on any major draft boards for next year right now, but I’ll make a bold stance right now: he has first-round potential NEXT year. He has Kawhi Leonard defensive potential, maybe higher. Yes, I just said Tugler has higher defensive potential than a 2x NBA DPOY. Any semblance of an offense, and I think NBA teams will take him on ā€œpotentialā€. And there’s a good chance he shows that semblance of an offense. He took 4 3s last year; he didn’t make them, but it shows that it’s going to be in his repertoire going forward. More added weight as a post player will also do him good. He is also more feisty than I remember and more of a vocal leader than most would think. His quiet nature last year, in my opinion, had more to do with being a freshman than just being naturally quiet.

Arceneaux - He is way more aggressive as a driver than I remember. His identity really changed from his freshman year when you look at the film. He was more of a hesitant 3pt shooter as a freshman. If you watched his games this year, he wasn’t hesitant at all; he just wasn’t getting that many touches, and was trying to evolve into a driver. Whenever he touched the ball, he was trying to attack, mostly as a driver. It was decent to start the year, but if I’m honest, it was almost a liability in the few games before his injury. But that’s where I see the potential. A lot of his drives revolved around him trying to post up small players. While he had the height, he just didn’t have the strength (he improved from freshman to sophomore but was still skinny). If the recent workout pictures are an indication of anything, he has gotten a lot stronger. This will also help his defense and rebounding.

Francis - He can really improve as a driver. Something I could see next year is getting the ball further out in pick and rolls and letting him be far enough to add a move or two before going to the post.

Ramon - I’m not making a film for him, but He is easily one of our most overlooked players, but the reality is he probably has the shortest distance to becoming a significant player. The only major thing he needs is fearlessness and a willingness to shoot contested shots. I think he has fixed his shooting form, but he mostly only shoots when open. It’s an improvement from last year when he only shot when completely unguarded. His percentages aren’t great, but I have faith in his 3pt shot. He just needs fearlessness, which is honestly less of a hurdle than for other players.
4 to 7 of these a game (without being forced by the shot clock) at 34%+,with his elite rebounding in jumping some guys:

For a top 3 team, our players are being rather disrespected. our hype is from Kelvin Sampson receiving respect, and that we return 7 of our top 9 players, not because they think those 7 are anything special. I watched a top 20 player ranking that had LJ at 19, with the reasoning being, ā€˜There should probably be a Houston player somewhere,’ but nothing specific about or why he is good. Additionally, random note: having better stats on drastically worse teams in a vastly easier conference doesn’t make those players better.

I’m almost done putting together the film (everyone above but Ramon). It should be ready this weekend or next week, whenever i get time.
