2025-2026 Houston Cougars Football

Of course they’re saying that

They have to say that

Latrell Mccutchin and JD Rhym both come to Houston after failing to perform at previous schools. Nickel back might actually be good. To be frank, outside corners are not good based on past performances.

How did Joe Burrow do at Ohio State? And I say this as someone who felt McCutchin had his share of struggles last season.

Why didn't Joe Burrow start at Ohio State? Revisiting his transfer to LSU | Sporting News.

Once you glimpse or read the article, you will quickly find out this isn’t a good comparison.

Latrell has struggled every year he’s been in college.

Injury counts as failing to perform, yes?

How about Cam Newton?

My point is past performance is, well, you know the rest.

Injuries is a disability. Hurting is a symptom of pain. Big difference. Nobody can perform injured. Some perform well hurt.

Your comparing Cam Newton and Joe Burrow to Latrell college experience? Let’s not drag this on any longer. Latrell has not performed well since he put on a college uniform. What point are you trying to make? If the past didn’t matter, then tell people to stop studying history. Do you want your daughter to date a past sex offender?

Our D was considered one of the best in the Big12 last year. He was a leader of that defense and started every game. That’s a successful year

The worst thing about recruiting is the way fans use it to decide who should start by looking at stars on a recruiting site. The Freshman quarterback Austin who is here now was a great talent that we signed and put up monster numbers in his high school career. The dude obviously has incredible speed and is athletic enough that coach wants him to work on punt returns or whatever.

Where have we seen this before from a quarterback prospect? D’eriq King right?.. from back when he was playing slot for us and returning kicks as a freshman year.

Anyways, maybe the people jumping the gun on Keisean coming in here and starting right away should pump the breaks. Austin has a year on him, is already in the program and possibly just as athletic? Idk, I guess what I’m saying is just let the guys compete and work on their game rather than all of us keyboard coach these guys.

That is your analogy? Why stop at Burrow? Quinn Ewers transferred too.

Assumption by whom?

How many true freshmen start at QB? Not many. I don’t think anybody associated with UH football “expects” Henderson will start.

QB’s rating vs Latrell Mccutchin was 128.6 out of 158.3 according to NflDraftBuzz. Elite rating.

That source is like the gospel to you. It does list him as the 25th best CB in inext year’s draft. With an overall grade of 75. Not elite but if that’s struggling I think plenty wish they were in that position.
I still don’t see the Pff grade in there
Latrell McCutchin Sr. Cornerback Houston | NFL Draft Profile & Scouting Report https://share.google/Nho8b6aLMcbQdIxkg
Scouting Report: Strengths
Prototype length for the boundary corner position, with a frame that can support additional muscle without sacrificing mobility.
Positional flexibility to potentially transition to free safety, offering valuable scheme versatility at the next level.
Showcases plus instincts in zone coverage, quickly diagnosing route combinations and positioning himself to make plays on the ball.
Natural hands and ball-tracking ability cultivated from two-way high school experience translate well to contesting catches.
Demonstrates willingness to set the edge against the run and blow up screens, suggesting potential as a force player.
Leverages length effectively at the catch point, using his wingspan to shrink passing windows and disrupt receivers.
Quick mental processing allows for rapid play recognition and anticipation of quarterback intentions in various coverage schemes.
Core special teams experience adds immediate value while developing into a potential starting role in the secondary

Scouting Report: Weaknesses
Despite solid timed speed, on-field play suggests room for improvement in mirroring elite receivers and maintaining tight coverage on vertical routes.
Inconsistent tackling technique in space, often relying on arm tackles rather than driving through ball carriers with proper form.
Limited starting experience at the Power Five level raises questions about his readiness to step into an every-down role immediately.
Press-man coverage skills need refinement, as he’s shown more comfort playing off and in zone schemes during his college career.
Injury history from high school could be a red flag for some teams when projecting long-term durability at the next

They gave him a 75 overall rating. But the math isn’t mathing. From his grade at each category, I don’t see how a 75 is the rating. And his position rank is 75 (not including underclassmen) not 25.

He has a poor grade in every category.

His Junior stats:

Started all 12 games at cornerback
Single-season bests in tackles (37), pass break ups (3) and blocked kicks (1) .

Not only did QB’s have great success when targeting (128.6 out of 158.3) him, he had 0 ints and just 3 pbu in 12 games.

Not sure what’s to defend.

If you answer “yes” to any of those questions. I will diagnose you as mentally ill.

Both sides are making plays. If the WRs weren’t getting open we’d be worried as well

Our fans aren’t used to seeing our offense score touchdowns in practice lol

I hope it means the offense is good as opposed to in the past it meant the defense sucked.

How many 5* QBs has UH ever landed on campus?

5* recruits are kind of like first round draft picks… you expect them to produce early…
