Penn State isn’t really a screwed up situation, compared to some others. Franklin was the first coach that the school has ever fired for performance, and it took them 12 years and a 1-10 record against Ohio State (against whom they had a 13-16* all-time record pre-Franklin) to even do that. Coaches there get a long leash, and they’re at least as well-equipped to contend for titles as A&M is. Elko has also spent the overwhelming bulk of his life and his career to this point in the Mid-Atlantic, which might play a role here.
They were a pretty consistent top-half Pac-10 team until the Neuheisel era. They were solid for the back half of Chip Kelly’s tenure, too. They’re not going to contend for national titles any time soon, but I think it’s reasonable for them to expect to be Iowa instead of Rutgers.
It’s my theory that the sec is like the nfl in regards to more parity within the sec. They brought in UT and OU and A&M was there and all want to win. What your seeing is more sec teams knocking off others and the records teams are used to won’t be there. The bottom of the sec has caught up some so they are seeing tougher games vs vandy, ole miss and Kentucky. Ole miss has old money and for a few decades Lsu could count vandy, kentucky, miss st and ole miss as wins. With nil , they can catch up some . The fans are going to have to re adjust their win total expectations or continually fire coaches like what we’re seeing. The big 12 has nfl like parity also where any team can win on a given Saturday.
The big 10 is slightly different in you still have a bunch of bottom feeder easier wins.
Put it this way, if Fritz doesn’t make the CCG and/or playoffs this year… perhaps it’s a good thing because no teams will try and take him from us while he rebuilds UH.
If we’re not currently working on an extension/raise for CWF, we’re fawked
Blank check. Notary. Direct deposit. Get it done tomorrow!
Starting all over againthis soon would be catastrophic to our program. We cannot afford to sit on our hands & just hope he stays loyal. We have to PAY THAT MAN!!!
We’ve already seen our defensive coordinator get poached by a conference rival. NOW is absolutely NOT the time to be worried about a budget.
Teams like LSU, PSU, UF, etc could aggressively target CWF specifically to flip Henderson. That’s a real threat, so we have no choice but to pay a real price.
There’s no way his agent won’t ask for a massive raise. These SEC jobs will pay you generational money just to go out there & wing it until you piss them off so bad that they end up paying you to leave for good. It’s enticing, but it just doesn’t seem to fit CWF’s personality.
However, I wouldn’t be surprised if LSU ended up offering him at $10m+ annually. I think we’re gonna have to get pretty close to that number to keep him. $9m/yr would make CWF the highest paid coach in the Big 12.
Where do we get the money from? I’m not sure, but if Nuñez has to go work on Bissonnett for a couple nights out of the week, he better make it happen. Seriously, it’s his job to go find some money. It’s put up or shut up time.
Indiana’s situation is so amazing. Down for so long and Cignetti turned them around instantly. The Indiana, Vanderbilt’s and Virginia’s passing us by. Hopefully Fritz can get us there.
