Ridiculous bias man ![]()
FYI, for those that want to give the Big 10 4 auto bids in a 4422 scenario - that would have bumped out Utah for USC. So it would have hurt the Big 12 this year with these final rankings.
Yeah, that’s a terrible idea.
Go to 16 teams, let in the top-ranked 6 conference champions, and see how it works. Or expand the field even more if you want to have multiple auto-bids from conferences.
The problem with the whole thing isn’t conference championship games or the size of the field - it’s the inherent brokenness of the ranking system that consistently overrates teams solely because of their names.
I am fine with the minimum of top 5 ranked conference champions. If more than 5 are in the top 20, then they get in as well.
Then cap the number of teams from one conference to 4. If you can’t finish of the top 4 of your conference, then you have no business taking a spot from another team that might be more deserving. I say this since there are so little inter-conference games to get a true comparison of conference strength and we are stuck with the hugely biased system in play currently.
How about we do what college basketball does and have quad rankings.
You get scored based on road, home, neutral site etc games.
All this SEC/Big 10 teams starting out with 7+ teams in the preseason top 25 rankings ruins it.
No polls until the 1st week of October so the Big 10/SEC don’t value “Quality Losses” to overrated teams.
