I am hoping for a better home slate. I stayed home for non conference. One of my seat neighbors thought I had died …

If true, LaSalle isn’t bad for an opener. At least it isn’t Alabama A&M.

They were pretty bad last year, but I’m OK with it - gotta ease into that schedule with a bunch of new guys. :slightly_smiling_face:

They should have this guy as their mascot - ol’ Ramblin Robert.

Personally, I go to see the Coogs - NOT the OTHER team. No better way to get to know the players than watching those early games IN PERSON.

Hopefully you will change your ways and support the Coogs IN PERSON all season long.

not gonna lie, i always assumed that’s who they were named after. turns out they’re actually named after a saint. ya learn something new every day.

That’s great for an opener, but we really shoudl only play top 150 KP teams after that.

I remember when our opening game in the 1983 season was against Texas Lutheran, and someone started complaining about it. A woman turned to him and said we did not come to watch Texas Lutheran play, we came to watch the Cougars play.

She sounds like a delight.

It’s ok for people who buy the tickets to want to watch real games instead of glorified scrimmages. As long as the tickets cost money, folks are going to have opinions on the value.

I don’t know why anyone would feel the need to lecture a seat neighbor on something like that, though. Just goes to show that Karens aren’t a new phenomenon. :slightly_smiling_face:

Yes, it seems there will be some folks who complain that UH doesn’t schedule the top ranked and/or glamorous teams as a non-conference home game in the Fertitta Center.

In this NIL era, those days are long gone. Those match-ups now take place in a tournament environment - like the Players Era in Vegas - where tickets for the game(s) will not be included in our season tickets at the Fertitta Center. That’s just the way it is.

The thought that any UH regular season home BB game is a glorified scrimmage seems a bit pretentious. To me, it seems no different than a UT or ATM football fan asking why would they ever want to schedule a FB game (as a glorified scrimmage) against a program like UH.

We’re blessed to have the UH BB program currently performing at such a high level and I think that we should try to show a little humility and have respect for all of our opponents. Being a fan doesn’t require arrogant behavior.

Exactly, buying that ticket gives me the right to question the competition. Nothing wrong with the question. Absolutely nothing wrong with wanting a quality game, with a quality opponent, every once in a while.

The OOC basketball schedule can include quality opponents because we’ve seen other teams do it. Coach may not like us questioning his scheduling, but he wants us to buy those extra tickets to see us play the Seminoles at Toyota Center, and that’s ok too. We all have our roles.

The story was about an interaction in a game against Texas Lutheran (a D3 team now - not sure about then). It’s not pretentious to acknowledge that some games are scheduled against teams that literally have no chance at competing, and a D3/NAIA school is a perfect example. It is nothing like another major university looking down its nose at UH.

Queens was in the Tournament last year thanks to winning the Atlantic Sun Conference. They are still a Q4 game, but they were top 200 NET.

Weird cuz Queens was just recently purchased by Elon. So we might be playing Elon University of Charlotte or whatever they decide to call it.
