Maybe thinking of Artist Gilmore?

Lew Alcindor and Ollie Taylor’s college careers overlapped for the 1968-69 season. UH played at UCLA in 1969, and Ollie definitely won the opening tip from Big Lew to start the game. My memory is a little hazy, but I thought I remembered that Ollie won the second half tip also. Could be wrong on that. Does anyone else remember?

I don’t remember, but Ollie had a 46 inch vert, so it wouldn’t be surprising if it happened.

Before my time so I defer to the elders.

Google it. It clearly states Ollie out jumped Lew.

Ollie got here the year after the Big E was drafted #1. Lew was #1 the following year. So they both played the 1968-69 season. They played at Pauley Pavilion Jan. 18th 1969.

Ollie was another great Coog who will be missed.
I went with Coach Lewis and Ken Spain to San Jac when he signed with us.
Also had a gym class with him.
I saw him one time. He came to the class on an outside basketball court, showed us Fat boys how to dunk a basketball and then went off into the sunset.
Had the privilege of interviewing him several times and loved every one of them.
He was a great guy and told me a couple of recruiting stories I could not repeat lol

Samp had a coaching clinic today
he used the players in the clinic

The lead 5 he used in the clinic was Dedan, Mercy, McCarty, Reek and Jojo

Weaver, hadnot and Arafan where on the gray unit (the main competitors) we likely won’t have a better hint to who is starting day 1

I am so excited to see it.

Sampson starts at about the 40 minute mark, and his story about Kingston’s jersey retirement is around 56.

interesting notes:

  • hadnot- fast, can score
defense needs work, not a true pg
  • stats of all the bigs prior to UH are meanngless
they were all scoring on 6’7 bigs, they were not big 12 sized bigs. says dont put unrelaisitc expectation on any of them that what leads to disappointment
  • strength of the team will be depth

Was watching the Rox play the Mavs this morning and unprompted Ryan Hollins said he was at a Coogs practice a few days earlier
.was dumbfounded at how hard their practices are
.CKS and staff run “the most physically tough practices he has EVER seen”.
