Ok. Lets say Recc does start…for the move to Center, then we can assume he wont have any issues with moving up to P4 comp. No way Sampson makes this change if this was a question about Recc ability. They obviously like what they see.

Now that we know Gillespie is a bad defensive center since Pesik uncovered his hidden stat line that he was a “bad” shot blocker during conference play.

A week ago, or two, CKS said Recc has some of the best instincts for rebounding the ball that he’s seen or something along thosr lines… and that’s why he knows will be a much better rebounding team… I’m assuming that means he’ll be on the court.

Last time uncle brought this up I noted his plus and negatives… he is good at holding position (not easily backed down) and moderate feet speed… he is decent at keeping you from getting in position, but was basically free points if you happens to be in position
My point wasn’t that delrocco is so bad… but that jojo is the best defensive player in the nation … we aren’t going to have defending so stretch 4 on the corner, and leaving delrocco to defend some 7 ft all American center or jt toppin
If anyone actually read between the line of what Sampson said today, it’s clear he just meant offense
Highlighting that jojo can really pass… and likely that every big in roster has better touch around the rim than him …

Looks like Diane will start. I don’t see Recco at the 5 if he’s not a rim protector. Definitely could see him as one of the first off the bench and Jojo moving to the 5 once he’s in…
I seem to remember that differently, for some reason. Tugler and Francis being at the 5 and j’wan the 4.

Have you actually seen any practices? Seen how they are being used? I would bet not. You could not be more wrong with some of your comments. Of course Diane will only play the 5 Dr. Obvious, Regarding East, Rec and JoJo…they will be interchangeable. Your disrespectful condescending tone with anyone who has a different opinion than you is annoying. Go back to reading your stat sheets and watching highlight films. Do think a player is who he is based on how he was used at his last school? You don’t think Chief will use them little differrent?

Secondly everyone seems to be anchoring on an interpretation of
“Delrocco is horrible defender” as my point - which validates your point of “you don’t think he’ll be better under Sampson”… that is fair counter if that was my argument … as they will be better under Sampson
That was never my point - my point “JoJo is an elite level defender and one of the best rim protectors in the nation” (if not the best) why would you remove him from the post for someone notably worse
You put jojo at the 4, opposing teams will just tell your stretch 4 to hide in a corner and take jojo out of the game … jojo rim protection is too valuable
We can “make” rocc work at the 5 … my point is that it’s not optimal
And side note all out great post defenders were great post defenders before they got here

He literally said the move is due to Recc’s natural ability to play center… not we’ll make it work…
We’ll make it work is what we did last year with Cenac & Jojo on the court at the same time.
One thing we can all agree on is Samps made sure he had pieces to move around this year… Diane, Recc. Tugler and East is a much better roster than we had last year and is similar the roster we had when we made it to the natty…

Francis was definitely more often at the 5 when on the court with J’Wan but J’Wan was at the 5 more when Tugler was on the court.
At the end of the day they were all pretty much interchangeable which is what I expect from Recc, Tug & East this season with Diane a pure 5.
But I think our starting line-up will be this…
PG - DJ Thomas
SG - Miller
Wing - Cha$e
F - Tugler
C - Recc
But if Diane is so good that he comes in and starts from day 1 AND PLAYS 25+ minutes then that will be FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC!

I think CKS is smart enough to be able to play someone as a 4 &/or a 5 on offense vs on defense.
He’s going to be roaming not just an under the basket defender. We’ve seen how fast he recovers on plays, that can be utilized at the 4 way better.

Plus, Sampson obviously sees offensive play-making ability in JoJo because of his vision and court-awareness - he’s talked about that for a couple of years. He can run offense through him at the 4 more easily than trying to get him the ball while he’s getting posted up by the other team’s 5.

I thought the question about Recco would be if he could put up the same offensive numbers like he did at the mid major. Scoring on larger defenders…well if he is playing Center then he must have looked good vs Diane and possibly even Tugler defending him some.
Defense was never an issue or question to me.
We had two youngsters last year and even Mercy out there and we were still one of the best defensive teams in the NCAA. Even playing an undersized 3 guard lineup…so the defense is going to be there no doubt.
If Sampson has Recco starting at center then he isnt having any issues on offense and they think he can cause matchup issues.
