Kelvin probably keeps in touch with recruits like Alston because he doesn’t want to burn bridges and you never know what’s going to happen in the future.

6’-6" for a PF… We’ve had complaints about size in the past but this is going in the opposite direction.
He is 6’6-7 230 with a 7’2 wingspan. Just entering his senior season of high school.

Lol, I didn’t want to be the one to bring it up.
But since you noticed… we just got a 6’1 and 6’2 guard, and both of those heights are very generous, and we’re the favorite/pushing hard for a 6’6 PF.
And Daniels isn’t a 6’6 stretch 4 who could eventually transition to the wing. He’s a 6’6 low-post center who doesn’t shoot and is hoping to transition to PF. That’s not a dig at Daniels. He’s known as a junkyard dog;physical, plays hard, and hustles on both ends.
All of them are touted recruits, so you can’t complain too much. But we are REALLY going small ball.
Most of the recent national champions have been oversized teams, and most of the current contenders are building to be huge. So it’s interesting that we’re doing the opposite and potentially going even smaller than the average team.
Side note: There’s been a lot of talk that, after the 5-for-5, we shifted our recruiting strategy toward developmental players. The idea being slightly lower-ranked guys who need some work but are more likely to stay multiple years.
But the types of players we’ve recently gotten or are targeting don’t really fit that narrative.
The top-25 guys are usually the 6’4-6’7 skilled, super-athletic, NBA-ready guards. In the #30-#75 range, there are basically 2 types of recruits:

The developmental 6’4-6’7 guards. The athleticism and size are already there, but they need a couple of developmental seasons before their skills are ready to become dominant.

The 5’11-6’2 guards who are as “ready” as the 5-stars skill-wise, but don’t have the freak athleticism or size. They’re shorter, but every bit as skilled.
Our commits fit the 2nd category much more than the first. These aren’t really “developmental” pickups. The issue isn’t something development fixes. They aren’t suddenly going to become 6’4 and start dunking on people no matter how much they develop.
And I’ve said this before, but Dedan will likely have the tightest handle of any guard we’ve seen in the Sampson era. Next year’s team, if Dedan comes back, could have the best handles we’ve had as a unit. Davis is likely going to be #2, and Delancy would probably be top 5, behind guys like Sasser and DeJon.

Remember that time we got a 6’11" center who was the best in his class over a 6’8" guy and he ended up being soft as hell and we were bounced from the Tournament in the sweet 16 getting dominated down low and the 6’8" guy was the bulldog we actually needed who helped his team to a final 4?

Come on, Cenac was incredibly soft. Didn’t play with the intensity that Sampson requires and didn’t really commit to defense. I would submit committing our frontcourt to him was the reason we didn’t get very far this past year. Now maybe that was a freshman thing and he would have grown into it in a second year but Koa immediately looked like he belonged, that can’t really be said for Cenac
