Yeah this is exactly what happened. Seems like most of the public AAU schools are either STEM heavy or have Medical Schools. It’s one of the things keeping UGA out.
I’m sorry to say that neither the Big or SEC are interested in a school that doesn’t travel well and struggles to average 25k in their small 40k stadium. And that would before even looking at AAU. We are our own worst enemy.
I actually agree with that, though some here insist that the B1G will want a TX school other than UT or aTm, simply as a matter of course, and that we would be that school.
OooooooK.
That’s as a G5 brand.
I have a feeling, the UH brand, in the year +/- 2035 will look very different.
That is around the time the ACC/ Big 12 implosion talks could intensify.
By then, we should easily be the most attractive Texas option out of TT, TCU & SMU.
UT had a standing invitation to both conferences and selected the SEC.
TAMU is a perfect cultural fit in the SEC and are not jumping to the B1G just because big bad UT joined their conference.
Except that that’s exactly how they went to the SEC in the first place.
Can’t rule out the same thing happening again, except with aTm and Mizzou going to the B1G.
Texas A& M doesn’t fit in with the B1G TEN schools…not happening.
The SEC is literally a perfect fit for them.
No way their fanbase wants to fly to Seattle, Los Angeles, DC, New Jersey, etc. when they are already in the heart of the South/ South East
Stopped listening to them. Way too many ads and not enough big12 content
How do you figure that?
They’re a HUGE sports brand with a super-massive fan base and a gajillion viewers, are a land grant public (like a MAJORITY of B1G schools), are AAU (an unwritten requirement for a B1G invite) and, thanks to PUF, they are, in effect, a state co-flagship (a super-majority of B1G schools are either state flagships or co-flagships).
How do they NOT fit in?
The off season, so long
I thin their fans would rather be associated with the likes of Florida, LSU, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, etc. rather than the likes of UCLA, Wisconsin, Rutgers, Maryland, Oregon, etc.
Remember, the protest from their fans when the Texas A&M to the PAC rumors began?
Texas A&M and the SEC fit like a glove.
Now, Texas…they should have selected the B1G over the SEC…that was a shock. they are a perfect fit in the B1G!
I wonder if they knew the B1G was close to acquring USC?
I also remember protests by aTm against admitting UT getting effectively SQUELCHED by the rest of the SEC.
I actually think that a lot of their fans revel in their renewed rivalry with UT, and want that to continue as it always had on Thanksgiving Week in the past.
But their faculty and administrators who already broke ranks with UT once…won’t be above doing it again…ESPECIALLY if it means joining a conference with more money, more academic prestige, and more similar schools (i.e., public land grants like them).
Not saying it’s likely, but I can’t rule it out, given past history.
Aggie is NOT going to leave the SEC…Their leadership, fan base and donors love being in SEC and now they get to play (and hate) whorn again…SEC is always tops in FB and this year, they are tops in BB too…Aggie is home. They arent going anywhere…
This year the SEC was definitely tops in basketball, or at least, it has been during the regular season; we’ll see how the tourney shakes out.
But the B1G has passed the SEC as the top football conference these last two seasons. The SEC hasn’t even had a team in the title game the last two years, while the B1G has won the last two natties.
I agree that it is UNlikely that aTm bolts for the B1G. But given that they’ve left UT behind in the past, won’t like playing second fiddle to them, and would be getting more money in the B1G, I will NOT categorically rule it out.
I think that Texas A&M will stay in the SEC because the other teams have a similar southern accent.
After 2 years in the B12, not much attendance change if any than the AAC days.
Yeah and if we’re that school we would go broke on travel. Looks like Illinois would be the closest B1G school to us and no travel partner
Yes…we are bringing in the #2 recruiting class in the country, in basketball.
That never would have happened if we were still in the American.
Dana held our football program back but once we get rolling i expect our brand to snowball.
Let’s hope Fritz is the guy!
I think CKS is the reason we have the 2nd rated BB class. He took us to the final four from the American.
I agree Fritz is an upgrade to DH, but I am still not sure he is the guy, but hope he is.
I don’t have an answer to the attendance, but we have only had fair weather fans at best in the 50+ years since graduation. But I know it’s going to take more than wearing Oiler uniforms once a year to build a rain or shine fan base.
