$40Billions additional aid to Ukraine and NO BABY FORMULA?

Free markets at work, except Abbott has over 40% of the market. They go offline (this time for contamination), shortages will exist. Government’s job is to inspect the factory, not make the formula. Competitors have ramped up their own production.

From Investing dot com: "Abbott will restart production of EleCare, Alimentum and metabolic formulas first, followed by Similac and other brands, after receiving the go-ahead from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA).

Once production is resumed, it will take six to eight weeks before the product returns to shelves.

Abbott is the leading supplier of milk formula in the United States and the recall has driven a shortage across the country, forcing many leading retailers to limit purchases."

First, ask Abbott. So you want the state to control manufacturing?

Second, it is your thread, and as combined you are repeating Putins propaganda. Will you explain why you are pushing his agenda? Or just avoid it as you always do?

I see now that this fake outrage is going strong on the right leaning media, I guess that’s where Chris heard it. And they call democrats sheep.

The formula issue is one but when combined with Ukraine funding, well, it is right from Russia Today. Right out of their playbook to say…”look, see the US can not even take care of their own”…to deflect from Russian failures. It is not hard to find the GOP members pushing this combo message, Gosar, Bobert, Paul, Johnson and more who are just very comfortable being cozy with Putin.

This is almost as bad as the great Bluebell Ice Cream famine of 2015.

Here is the current GOP strategy, rinse and repeat.

  1. Distract: Don’t help Ukraine! We have a baby formula crisis!
    Taken from Russian talking points

  2. Divide: ‘They are giving it to illegals!’
Prolife for some but not for all babies.

  3. Deceive: There was never hoarding or shortages under Trump.
I guess the run on toilet a paper and sanitizer never happened.

  4. Deceive: ‘This is another Biden failure!’

Crazy how a private company who has stopped making formula because 2 babies died due to contaminated product is now the responsibility of the current administration. For a party that has said let free markets dictate, now, they want a heavy hand by the government…seems like socialism, like in Venezuela.:smirk:

So keep those points in mind, it is a messaging strategy when you consume your media.

The GOP does not set the agenda for the mainstream media. The NY Times, Houston Chronjicle, most newspapers, NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, and all of the subsets of them such as MSNBC, are all very much pro Democrat and frame their political coverage to be pro Democrat. They are also the ones telling about the baby formula shortage.

I watch NBC News every night and I don’t remember anyone saying it was caused by the administration, nor do I remember anyone saying that the GOP is accusing the administration. If there is any blame on government (which I can’t see what it could be) it would be on the bureaucracy that is in place regardless of party in power.

In short, this is not a political issue, IMHO.

I have the “receipts” from the GOP strategy if you want to see them, from social media, Fox news and conservative friendly media that has pushed all 4 of the points I listed.

Sam, the Soros-financed media bias chart cell of the Antifa-BLM-Commie Propaganda Committee wants you to think those charts are accurate. Sad.

I am not even showing social media. Once you see the strategy and know what to look for it is hard to miss.

Yes, the GOP and Dems give talking points to their members when talking to the media. The GOP is effective and disciplined with messaging to their base. The conservative base does not trust or believe the media, but turn to Fox and others as their only trusted sources.

Here is another example of the political theater we are treated to, at the end of the day they are actually friendly with each other. But we hear and see the sound bites we get, you would believe there is real hatred. It is simply people doing their jobs and we process it much more personally.

Every poster?
You mean your leaning accokytes.
Now this is for the same frequent posters.
YOU PURPOSELY IGNORE THE BIGGEST POINT OF THE ARTICLE.

One more time…

It started last year.
Are we debating about a lack of black trufles?

NO THIS IS WHAT FEEDS MILLIONS OF BABIES.

The fda has known about this and has not put a working program in place. The government 1st priority is to protect its citizens. THIS $B’s gov agency failed us.
norbertnewman can putinjack this thread but facts are facts.

And what does this have to do with Ukraine?

We are still waiting, it’s your thread, please explain or are you worn out from carrying someone’s water, that rhymes with gluten?

Do you willfully ignore Abbot Labs role in this, how they covered up, fired whistle blowers, used money to buy back stocks instead of fixing their plant, lied to FDA regulators…it seems everyone agrees the formula issue is related to Abbott labs, yet you are the only one trying to blame the current administration. I even highlighted the GOP strategy on this and you are falling right in line. Don’t you feel manipulated?

Of all your postings, this one is special. What “working program” would the FDA put in place for manufacturing of baby formulae ? The agency’s objectives, generally speaking, is to insure that safe food and drugs are put on the market. Not to manufacture foods or drugs.

But please elaborate on this working program the FDA should have put in place. What are your specific ideas here ?

Shortage of baby formula started last year and we just found about it?
No plans from last year?

You betcha it has everything to do with Ukraine. We rightfully mobilize for Ukraine but we do not for our newborns?

I know English is challenging for a non-native speaker. “Bi partisan” means both
left and right support something. You probably mean just partisan here; stop ranting and think.

And once more, what plan would a regulatory agency have for product manufacturing?

And the shortage has not resulted in any baby’s starving to death in this country that I’ve heard about ; but if you have that data please share it. There are alternatives you know, natural breast milk, whole milk, or imports. Admit you are the victim of Manufactured rage.

We’ve gone over this. Abbott and a couple other companies have the FDA approved plants to manufacture formula. They also make formula for other labels with any excess capacity. MyHeart in Pennsylvania is the only recent entry into the market with their own plant, active since 2016.

The entry barriers to enter the market are high. Just like with manufacturing computer chips. It takes capital that can wait several years for return because it takes time to get up and running with all the government approvals and inspections, because nobody wants to poison babies.

That’s it. That’s the truth and the facts. We are hamstrung by the de facto monopoly for baby formula. Like many problems whether meat packing for dairy contamination, the FDA inspects, but companies have to self-report problems because the FDA can’t have a staff overseeing every plant and every aspect of production.

Facts matter little when points can be scored. That’s another truth.

From that leftie rage, Reason magazine:

The United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), the rewrite of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) championed by the Trump administration, set new limits on how much baby formula Canada could export—not just to the United States, but anywhere else in the world too.
