Excellent show. The Mormons weren’t exactly portrayed in a positive light. Geez!

I don’t know much about their history… so, you’re saying this isn’t based in some level of historical truth…?

I’m not really sure. I would guess there’s some truth to it. I assumed Brigham Young would have been a venerable character, but he came off as sort of a scheming, phony scoundrel. I don’t know. Mormons are a different breed. But whatever the case I really enjoyed it. Maybe the best Western series I’ve seen.

The ending was shite. It would have been nice to see the heroine die at the end. She was so irritating. Or maybe see the dad meet the kid. There was so much killing, I thought I was playing Red Dead Redemption.

Whole lotta killing going on. I was a little disappointed that the hero died, but it pretty much went with the atmospherics of the show. And he had missed his chance to move beyond his past and have a life and a family. I think just about everyone except the woman and two kids, Bridger, and Brigham Young and his top lieutenant kicked the bucket.

About half way through, it’s good. But like so many movies and shows I can’t get over how much of the plot is based on being dumb or bad at their jobs. Which is actually pretty accurate for real life.

I thought so, too… but they left it open for another season.

To be fair there was, and still is, a lot of killing that takes place in the USA…

Idk if Bridger or Isaac was my favorite character…

I thought it was more based on greed and megalomania…

I think it shows the brutality of the wild west and to a certain extent religious fanaticism.

So this period time the Mormons and their militia/guerillas/whatever definitely sucked as human beings. Not saying that everyone didn’t suck, they did, but they were above the average.

Also they had plenty of suck done upon them as well.

This show is vicious.

There is a podcast called last podcast on the left. They take a murderous vicious topic and do a really good deep dive with potty humor along the way. But the dive into the history of Mormonism is 6 episodes long and about 2 to 2 1/2 hours each. From Joseph smiths upbringing on a rock farm to his death by posse in Missouri and bringham youngs urinary tract issues that led to catheter use regularly. Just a really interesting listen.

As mentioned a whole lot of killing going on for killing sake. I enjoyed 1883 much more as well as Lonesome Dove and Centennial as western series.

Apparently the show eased up a little on the violence of the wagon train massacre. No judgement towards my Mormon friends here, most religions have some pretty grisly atrocities in their history.
