Antisemitism can't be ignored

Probably depends where you look.

https://www.timesofisrael.com/watch-far-right-israelis-celebrate-gaza-kids-deaths/

You were talking about the prisoner abuse. Now you move the goalposts?

Yes, there are some in the far right who have celebrated deaths. That is disgusting. Just like there are some Americans in the far right who try to parade around with Nazi flags. You don’t apply either of those to a whole nation.

Really though, does any of that excuse antisemitism? Should someone who is disgusted by the abusive actions of some soldiers (who are being held accountable) or by the people on the political fringes of Israel justify hate of all Jews?

What is the point you’re trying to make about antisemitism?

We’re not using this thread as a sounding board on Israel. Let’s respect that

Sorry, I just didn’t bother to find a tweet from a single person and instead went with a whole group openly celebrating other atrocities.

But you know…

House arrest for those accused now. Such fierce justice.

There is a long history of prisoner abuse by Israel with little consequences. It’s just a fact. Is his post anti-semitism just because of the way he points that out?

I’m discussing a specific instance posted on this thread of claimed antisemetism.

I wasn’t disparaging you. But that guy is not someone you should be amplifying in a positive way, IMO. He’s a dirtbag.

This is another Jake Shields’ tweet.

Enough said.

Antisemitic SOB.

Anything coming out of his mouth should be dismissed outright.

His post isn’t just some innocuous protest of a wrong committed, but yes it is the language and accusations he makes. The fact that he says Jews rather than Israel is also a reason it isn’t simply anti Israel.

Also, someone getting away with atrocities with little punishment is one thing. However these people certainly aren’t given celebrity status for their crimes. That does happen with Palestinian terrorists though.

Also the fact that he has a history of antisemitism.

No what you did was take a statement I made about something specific and refuted it with a different issue.

Again, I ask you, what is the point you are trying to make. You didn’t start this discussion with Jake Shields.

If it is that something that is anti-Israel is not necessarily antisemitism, well I agree and said so.

That’s the question I was responding to. I don’t know the guy and its the first tweet of his I’d ever read.

So, was the tweet in protest of policies? Seems to me that’s a possibility giving the timing of the tweet and the prisoner rape that had taken place and clearly some are supporting of that type of action given the response of radicals (attacking the base), the radicals history of supporting atrocities (link to the other protest), and the governments mere house arrest of those accused.

It’s a reactionary tweet designed to enrage and he does himself a disservice by doing it that way …and it sounds like that’s his MO so he’s lost most if not all credibility.

But still…it seems to be a tweet in protest of actual actions by Israelis.

Please see my post where he basically says that rape is a ā€œpillarā€ of Judaism.

That’s pretty obviously anti-Semitic, not merely anti-Israel.

It wasn’t the post I was responding to. And if you read my last post fully, you’ll see that I took that into account. (ā€œit sounds like that’s his MO so he’s lost most if not all credibilityā€)

I would probably agree with you, based on what you shared, that he’s antisemetic in general.

Then why doesn’t he say Israelis instead of Jews?

Your initial response here, which lead down a rabbit hole of other issues.

I answered only part of your question. I answered about the protestors which is where I pulled in the Jake Shields quote that you questioned.

I didn’t answer if this was antisemitism or anti Israeli policy…

The sticker itself, yes I would say leans more towards anti-Israel policy (I actually considered not including it here). The use of the Swastika though and conflating what is happening now to the Holocaust is more into the antisemitic. However, what makes that particularly antisemitic is the placement and targeting of a Hillel House on a college campus. That is targeting Jews rather than targeting Israel. Now that’s my opinion and how I see it, others (Jew or not) may disagree.

So I again ask, what is the larger point you were trying to make or what was the larger question you were trying to understand?

I agree with you on pretty much all of that.

Swastika in America? Definitely anti-semetic, and harmful to your own cause.

Targeting American Jews over this at all? Anti-semitic fully.

Targeting Israel due to their prosecution of this war? Not, anti-semitic, IMO. I’ve long had a problem with Bibi, and likely always will. He’s made good moves recently, and bad ones, IMO.

Coming after American Jews is anti-semitic. Full stop. They are Americans, not Israelis.
