That seems to be the issue.

Can they be sued for not enforcing the law?
No they can’t. I mean anyone can be sued for anything but they won’t win.
College is for you to do stupid things, say stupid things and express your stupid ideas in ways that sound important. Time and life will clarify your ideas and teach you that you were just going through a stupid phase.
We should stop taking college students ideas and what they are saying seriously and chalk it up to them going through a stupid self important stage of their life.

That’s the key thing here imho. The students
complaining about intimidation or harassment need to bring a suit and let this be handled by the courts. Another branch of government should not be stepping in and essentially handing out a fine without an investigation, facts presented, and the defendants (school admin) not given thier chance to refute evidence or demonstrate actions taken to manage the accusations alleged.
That’s fine on the CIVIL side.
But why isn’t Columbia doing anything on the CRIMINAL side to punish the SJP GOONS for their crimes?
Can the Feds punish or sanction them for their inaction in that regard?

And if the answer is yes, then how far should the sanction go?

Who is the enforcement authority for hate crimes?
Both sides should stop taking these morons seriously.
Maybe we would if they would stop committing HATE CRIMES, and other crimes.
Until then, they definitely deserve attention.
So now Universities are at fault for any hate crime on campus?
Can we apply the same for rape?
What about the inaction on that?

Suppose UH didn’t start cracking down on sexual assaults, and didn’t even so much as bother to call law enforcement whenever they happen, and give then perpetrators or suspects, even when known, an intentional free pass?
Can the government take action against UH for that?
If the answer is yes…then what about Columbia regarding the SJP and their crimes?
And if the answer to that is yes…then what would the appropriate punishment be?

Come on, college students being self important dumb azzes.
On one side, you aren’t aggrieved at Columbia. Walk around the protest and take your class.
On the other side, shut up, you aren’t important. The reason you are getting press coverage is that it is a slow news day.
Evidence of such crimes needs to be presented in appropriate setting. Don’t think an investigation and trial can be carried out in the media.
It ain’t as simple as that though.
Those goons have committed burglaries, criminal trespasses, terroristic threats, criminal mischief (vandalism), and assaults according to reports I’ve read.
Why isn’t Columbia cracking down on them?

Of course, but that can’t happen if Columbia isn’t even so much as calling the cops and seeing that the known perpetrators are arrested in many cases.
Thats the issue.
If they break into a building, just arrest them for breaking and entering. Really simple. Nobody cares about your childish dumbazz views, you have committed a crime.
But the other side is “I am so aggrieved”.
Shut up on both sides and go to class.

Are there any known cases of Arab or Chinese or Mexican or African students being harassed and/or threatened on any college campus. What happens then? Loss of endowment?
All harassment should be properly and non selectively sanctioned, especially the ethnic variety.

Depends on whether the university is doing what it should to prevent it and/or punish the wrongdoers when such dastardly deeds take place.
If they are doing nothing to stop it and punish it…then someone needs to hold them accountable.
Just arrest kids for the crimes they commit. Pretty simple.
