Antisemitism can't be ignored

It’s very conceivable an attack like this could happen here too. Would
you blame the authorities here as well if that happened ? The blame is a “yes and no” issue for me.

We all want the right to peacefully assemble; but we’ve had mass shootings at
sporting event celebrations and everything else. Even with massive police
protections, shootings have happened here. Per CBSnews…

Albanese confirmed that the younger suspect had been under investigation by the Australian Security Intelligence Agency (ASIO), the country’s primary spy agency, for about six months during 2019.

It’s not like the authorities had been doing nothing. Do we wish they had done more ? Of course, but that’s always hindsight.

I tend to agree with one Rabbi that said this wasn’t “a gun control issue”. It’s a centuries old hate thing that has survived countless kings and governments. How
do authorities anywhere of any persuasion address deep seated blood hate ? Maybe North Korea and China have an answer, but nobody here would advocate adopting their systems.

Why was my post deleted? I was just following up on this.

Yes, I would. The Israelis authorities were very clear. They warned the Aussies for three years.
Who is the primary duty of elected officials?
I will let you answer that one.
The same goes for every European Union country.

While the motivations are unknown at this time, the Brown shooting could also very well be an antisemetic hate crime. It was in a Jewish economics professor’s class who also teaches Jewish studies, although she was not in the class at the time.

Sydney shooting victims include Texas A&M’s rabbis’ son

Not only that but Australia has gone to great lengths to try to prevent tragedies such as this one. Much, much, much more so than the US. The US has had more mass shootings in the last 30 days than AUS in the last 30 years.

If we’re going to play the blame game and call countries out then the US has to be #1 on the list.

Does the poster in question, blaming AUS, think the US should finally change or is he happy with thoughts and prayers?

I believe the blame being laid has to do with the Australian government not doing enough to protect Jews specifically, and not to do with gun control. Let’s leave it at that as a gun control discussion is political and way off topic.

Tell that to the Israeli government. They warned them for over three years.

I think we can end this part of the discussion here guys.

How would a government protect a specific demographic of people? At the expense of protecting others? Give them all special security?

Laws are in place to protect all people, and it’s up to the people to follow those laws or face consequences.

Do you believe the rise in Australian antisemitism is for the same reason you think there is a rise in American antisemitism?

In this specific case, this was a known gathering of Jewish people so yes they could have given extra security to the event just like they do for a sporting event, parade, etc.

Why should they receive federally-funded protection at the expense of federally funded protection of others?

If the Jewish community feels threatened, then they should fund their own security.

Do Mexican Americans get special security at Cougar football games paid for by taxpayers?

Do African Americans get special security at a church paid for by taxpayers?

But Jewish people should get special protection?

Did Muslims and Arabs get special protection by tax payers after 9/11?

No I don’t

Dude, chill. Again, in this case the event - a Jewish gathering that was open to all Austrailians - may have been more of a target so it would be wise to add additional security. Just like additional security is added for the Super Bowl vs. a regular NFL game.

However, to your point about Jews paying for their own security. In the USA Jewish organizations spend $765 million a year on it.

African Americans absolutely have had special security paid for by taxpayers in situations throughout history. However, that isn’t the point.

This is really off topic, so please drop it or discuss it with whomever wants to continue it in a direct message.

Which situations?

What happened in Australia is 100% on the Australian GVT. These abject p.o.s.'s were knkown by authorities and were on the terror watch list. How in the heavens can these same abject p.o.s.'s get a fire arm is beyond any comprehensions. This is 100% on them. This is what happens when you have idiots leading a country. Idiots that causes 15 deaths. The Austrialian P.M. ought to resign over this. The first responsibility of an elected official is to protect its citizens regardless of left, right or center.

They were not on terror watch lists. They were interviewed part of a 2019 investigation, but they were deemed non-threats.

This shooting isn’t something that could’ve been prevented, factoring what we know as of now

These guys were licensed gun owners, and were likely radicalized over time. They traveled to terror cells such as locations in the Philippines which likely aided their radicalization
