Applewhite Has Fans

Do they have a video board that he could stare at during games ?

I could see him as HC at Rice also; they don’t have a lot of coaches clamoring for that job. Sometimes you take what you can get.

I’ll let me previous post, where I answered your question, answer your question.

I think there are places he could have some success: Rice, Duke, or some place along those lines. He basically needs a patient admin and fanbase that isn’t too worried about winning all the time.

I’m thinking he might have success in Oak Forest Little League peewee football. Not impressed with his run up the middle, run off tackle left, off tackle right, then punt offense . . . . .

Then obviously you don’t know oak forest little league.

Moved away from them in '64 . . . . .

Obviously some of our fans hate him because he played at Texas.

Ridiculous to say he didn’t have recruiting ties. He had been recruiting the state for over a decade. How do you think we got under the radar players like Turner, Kirven, Freeman, etc.?

We were sold a “QB whisperer?“ I wasn’t aware of that.

The ‘17 offense struggled because it started a reserve QB, had a marginal OL, and no speed. He tried to implement the run spread option, which made sense given that we were looking for continuity. Unfortunately we didn’t have a QB to run it. King had been out and not practiced. We were top five nationally in offense the next year.

Character judgment? Do you mean judgment of coaching acumen? D’Onofrio was a mistake, but he was recommended by Orlando.

Oliver had been told by the equipment manager to let a player who was actually playing wear the jacket. He refused. What was Applewhite supposed to do? Beg him for it? Oliver apologized for the incident as he should have.

He didn’t work out here for a few reasons, one being he needed more seasoning as a coordinator. But he averaged 7 1/2 wins and beat Sumlin, Rich Rod, Coach Ken, and won 8 games a year despite a rash of injuries in his second season. We needed to move on, but he wasn’t Dimel or Helton. Saban hired him again, and I expect he’ll be an OC somewhere before long.

So, you saying that Tillman and Khator made a mistake by canning him !

You’re going to have to point out where he said that EECOOG, because he didn’t say anything of the sort from what I have read.

We had an NFL level talent pocket passer and Applewhite tried to force him into the run spread option

So do you also think Brian Johnson leaving UH to coach RB’s at Florida was 100% Brian’s decision?

And Major was basically passed over for play calling duties in favor of Harsin at UT. Our offense wasn’t that great here when he was calling plays and the offenses at Texas weren’t that great when he finally got play calling duties.

I don’t hold anything against the guy, but his track record as an OC is so-so.

Because
duh
we didn’t have an offensive line to do that
ergo
Greg Ward’s and D’Eriq’s “success” under Applewhite’s “offense”. Get a clue! You cannot have a “NFL” type offense without an “NFL” type offensive line. Just saying. Jeez! I mean “trying to force him?” That is all we had to offer
that is why Ward and King flourished
they HAD to improvise to survive the pass rushes coming at them!

I just encapsulated it into fewer words.

Would Chad Morris coach at Rice?

I love how we blame Orlando for recommending Doritos to applewhite. Like deniro in casino, either he was in on it or he was too stupid to see it. He could have just checked the defenses that he ran at Miami. It took no time to see he had a plethora of draft picks and a mediocre defense on his best days. That is on applewhite.

There is so much wrong here

Major was not passed over for anything. He wasn’t brought in to have play calling duties initially, which is why he was listed as a AHC for his first three years there. He took over play calling duties in 2013.

We were 34th in the country in offensive efficiency in 2015. We were 50th in 2016. Texas was 50th in 2013.

For reference, our offensive genius calling plays right now is 71st in offensive efficiency.

If that isn’t great, it definitely is solid and a helluva lot better than we are seeing now.

**I swear people are making stuff up just to trash the guy. It really is pathetic. If you want to nail him for failing to recruit in certain areas, you got a point. If you want to nail him for making bad assistant hires, you’d be right. But a lot of the crap that is being said is just plain ridiculous.

Fixed it for you.

Lol. What we were sold was that the local coaches wanted him. What they didn’t tell us was they wanted a place to unload their 1 and 2 stars.

And if I remember right the OC was one of the very few coaches people complained about on Herman’s staff.

How many one and two stars did Applewhite recruit?
