What is blocked out is that his already staggering buyout increases by 50% if he leaves for a HC job in Texas.
Hopefully Texas A&M doesn’t come calling later next season.
Aggies would probably go look at Chad Morris first and maybe Phillip Montgomery if Morris, for some reason, declined. Supposedly, Morris turned down other offers (Baylor) because he’s next in line at Aggie.
Applewhite, being a UT grad/legend, probably wouldn’t fly there.
It’ll be interesting to see if D’onofrio tries to add a few wrinkles to the defense next year. I know Coach Applewhite is on record saying that their not looking to change what Coach Orlando had going last year or reinvent the wheel. However him being the DC I find it hard to Believe that he won’t try and alter things here and there.
I don’t see any incentive listed for actually winning the CFP. All they have to do is get there. Talk about settling for second best…
I’m all for CMA being able to get or rumor for a p5 job in 2 years. That means he has made UH not skip a beat after Judas left us high and dry.

I can see why you would think that would be settling considering all of our appearances in the National Championship Game throughout the history of this great university.

If we win the CFP, CMA will get a new contract with much more than what’s shown here. Heck, Herman doubled his salary after winning the Peach Bowl and then got a $4M offer after winning just 9 games this year.
What goes into the non salary compensation. $850k is a lot for a car!
I never realized that a university is on the hook for all the assistants that don’t get hired by the new coach. If they were fired, yeah I get that, but not being retained is another thing. I wonder if it was always like that before the coaches unionized.

lol at privacy. The school pays off an 8 digit athletic department deficit every year with tax dollars and tuition. We are making a bid for PUF money. As long as we run at a deficit, everyone gets to see how every penny is spent.
It costs money to make money. The school has benefited in numerous ways in recent years.
You need to read the book by Krisit Dosh about Athletics financing at Universities. The deficit you read about all the time is not as bad as it is projected in the newspapers. It is all in the accounting. What is counted as revenue for Athletics and what expenses are charged back to Athletics.

Similar accounting occurs with professional teams. If athletics was truly costing public universities $20M+, states would be shutting them down immediately or coming after them hard when it comes to other funding areas.
While that may be true, the taxpayer and the students have a right to see how their money is being spent. Especially with student fees and tuition going up faster than the inflation rate.
