6. Here are the largest assistant salary pools in each conference:
AAC: Houston ($2.41 million)
ACC: Clemson ($5.39 million)
C-USA: Middle Tennessee ($1.25 million)
Big 12: Texas ($4.54 million)
Big Ten: Ohio State ($4.58 million)
MAC: Western Michigan ($1.22 million)
Mountain West: Boise State ($2.05 million)
Pac-12: UCLA ($3.95 million)
SEC: LSU ($5.78 million)
Sun Belt: Arkansas State ($1.27 million)
7. The AAC is a step above the rest of the Group of Five.
Seven of the top nine G5 assistant salary pools are from the AAC (Houston, Memphis, Cincinnati, UCF, USF, UConn, East Carolina). Boise State and Colorado State are the other two.
In addition, the 10 of the 11 highest-paid G5 assistants are from the AAC. After Colorado State’s Will Friend, the next 10 are Todd Orlando, Zac Taylor, Erik Chinander, J.B. Grimes, Major Applewhite, Raymond Woodie, Chris Ball, Troy Walters, Chip Long and Robert Prunty.
