We are getting bad press on B12 and other sports feeds on FB about our attendance
Coogs if one enjoys being part of the big leagues better come to games. I know everyone on here goes but that might be the message to alums
The game day experience is seriously lacking. The in-game experience should be inviting and welcoming, but its not. Last year’s best experience was when Chinedu was out of town and we didnt have a host. Instead of going with that this they just hired a new host, one less experienced, who is not a Coog, and who most people here say is not even as good as Chinedu. Additionally, UH focuses everything on catering to the rich instead of the majority of fans. Seems like our athletic department constantly shoots itself in the foot. Fritz’s teams are great to watch. They play hard and they win games. They deserve better.
That’s a non factor at this time. There’s plenty of seats available in the lower section that no one has to sit up there if they don’t want to.
People aren’t avoiding the games because of lack of amenities up there.
Tailgating has sucked since we left Robertson Stadium. Was great to tailgate up near the stadium. Now it’s the long walk or the garage.
I think the university is now paying for poor investment by the city and by itself over the past several decades.
The city has not taken transit infrastructure investment seriously, so people constantly have to deal with headaches of traffic and parking. Small wonder they don’t want to do so again on a Saturday. Perhaps better advertising of how to park and take the train to the game could help help.
The university did not take coaching hiring seriously. It followed the strategic hiring of Briles/Sumlin/Herman with the lazy and foolish hiring of Levine/Applewhite/Holgerson. This killed the momentum of having an exciting team, opening a new stadium on campus, and joining the BigXII. Perhaps hiring Fritz will help, but so far it’s not looking promising.
“Perhaps hiring Fritz will help, but so far it’s not looking promising.”
WHAT?
Coach Willie Fritz looks like one of the most promising football coaching hires I’ve seen at UH.
Herman, Briles, Sumlin, we’re coaches when we were in the American Athletic Conference. None of them succeeded long term in the Power 5.
Fritz is bringing us to Top 25 prominence playing in the Power 4. We have a very good and balanced team. Fritz is so good he’s got us the best 5 star QB patiently waiting for his turn to lead UH next year. We’ve never had that luxury at UH. That is the hallowed ground of Alabama in Nick Saban’s days.
I don’t see Willie Fritz moving on from UH like the others did.
If Willie Fritz keeps bringing us seasons like last year, our alumni will start coming back.
As I said, so far I am not seeing that attendance rebound. Last year was a solid year, so we should have been off to a stronger start to this year regarding attendance. Unfortunately, we are not, at least so far. My comment was about attendance, not about the quality of his coaching, which is excellent.
This tweet says it all:
Our top attended games are either at night or indoors at NRG (OU and LSU). With Tom Herman, we were getting night games (Memphis, Louisville, Cincinnati). UT and Tamu get more night home games than we do
These are the times of our top attended games, see a common trend?
Reliant games aren’t directly comparable with TDECU in terms of attendance. LSSE sells tickets for those games, and they have more and better sponsors, so they’re better at inflating ticket counts, often to the point of hilarity.
I think we need to do drastic things to help out attendance.
-
Offer to help repay student loans for our recent graduates if they buy season tickets or attend the games.
-
For the older fans, they can do a senior discount or rebate if they attend at least 5 homes games.
Give them the check at the end of the game. -
Current students get a waiver on graduation fees, waiver on parking ticket, or free lunch if they attend at least 5 home games since their attendance is tracked.
Exactly
