Austin Armstrong

This isn’t even remotely true. Saban had a new OC seemingly every year, because they kept getting Head Coaching jobs. Assistant coaches shuffle around constantly, all the way up to the NFL level, because there’s a very small gap between being good enough to be promoted and being bad enough to be fired.

You very occasionally might get a Brent Venables type that sticks around for a decade, but that’s rare.

He’s been good but not that good. I’ll be surprised if he’s not back next year.

Clearly you are not remembering last year !!!

Well if we could quit giving up a touchdown on the opening drive of every damn game that would help

totally agree - they overpay position coaches to where FCS schools who would want them as a HC can’t afford them - and some can never move up for whatever reason but they remain a well-paid assistant

He’s been a DC for exactly two years where he has called plays and he is 32 years old….he is not leaving for a HC job.

This is typical UH fan BS.

“He’s done a really good job, hope he doesn’t leave”.

And then the others that wanted to “portal” him for giving up 17 points……

So many uninformed “fans” on this sight.

Thank you for this post @coachv .

With rumors that UNT might be interested in offering Shiel Wood the HC job there (if Morris leaves), it would be crazy if TxTech tried luring Armstrong away from us lol

I thought Wood was an OSU candidate

Wouldn’t be surprised if he is, but the UNT connection came up during the last Go Coogs Live episode last Saturday.

Armstrong was a great hire and I am glad we gave Willie his big break. We needed to after “can’t coach this shid” Holgerson.

Remember how many people not only questioned but said outright Coach Armstrong was a bad hire.

Armstrong did this in his last 2 games:

He crushed UCF and TCU in the second half.

Whatever he does not do right in The First Half, he corrects it in the second half.

This is great!

Yes, I know MANY coaches that do not make proper adjustments….some don’t make any!

We have a guy that knows what he is doing.

I think he stays pretty vanilla to start the games and looks to weaknesses he can exploit…

He also has a keen ability to know when to push the gas and take the wind out their sails.

In 10 of 11 games he has killed it in the second half.

WVU killed him in the second half.

Predict we will again see an excellent performance, vs Baylor.

This reminds me of the Astros starting pitchers who gave up 5+ runs in the first couple of innings but SHUT THEM DOWN after that.

So a big growth opportunity is to figure out how to stop teams earlier. Hottest of hot takes. :sunglasses:

Only issue I have with him is the vanilla to start the game. I assume he has film of the opponents.

He makes good adjustments as the game progresses. I think we play too far off the wide receivers, but that is just my opinion.

Although we gave up the 14 points in the first qtr to TCU, overly conservative offense in the second half hurt. That last series play calling was atrocious.
