Exactly… I mean imagine what a player like Ted Williams would have done…
The Splendid Splinter !!! John Wayne was nothing but an actor…Teddy Ballgame was the REAL John Wayne…Ace Fighter Pilot in WW2/Korea. Can only imagine what his numbers would have been if hadn’t lost some prime years in Service. Would love to have seen him play. Was lucky that got to see Mays, Aaron and Clemente play as a youngster
And I would like to add Ernie Banks, “Let’s play two.” Between 1955 and 1960 he hit more home runs than anyone in baseball including Mantle, Mays and Aaron. Saw him play a lot as a kid before moving to Texas.
Otani is going to join them as all time greats.
Ruth hit .342 lifetime and almost had double the walks to strikeouts in his career. Ohtani has a way to go to get to 714. He also did this with archaic bats that weighed 45 ounces and balls as dark as dirt and tobacco juice
Hitting a dark ball wouldn’t be much of an issue. They didn’t play night games in Ruth’s day and age.
Ruth didn’t play against black or Latino players. The league was super weak back then so hard to really compare.
Or year round pros as already mentioned above… it’s really pretty silly to compare the pre civil rights era to post civil rights era…
