Am reading Playoff projections and seeing only one Big 12 team featured.
At present that team is Az State. They win the Title Game and the loser does not make the 12 team playoff.

Ive seen boise state play and ive seen asu play, no effing chance should boise state be ranked over asu if asu wins the championship. They are trying to give BSU a bye game so bad
A wild week coming is true.
I have played with different projections this morning. While my two teams look to be out due to various tiebreakers (UH wont make 6-3 and TCU wont get past the next tie breaker of conference opponent winning percentage -BYU/Tech/TCU tie for second), it seems even WVU still has a chance which I was surprised by.
Now if the conference had a step for winning percentage among tied teams that did not require having played all teams, then it would be different. Currently only count common opponents, not record among the 6-3 teams (or 7-2 teams) with more than two in the group.
Good little article from the Buffs perspective, mentions indeed ISU is a straight shot to leap BYU with win. Kansas State is going to play them like their super bowl though.
If that happens and UH wins, Buffs get in
Ironically is Houston that can keep us out even with a win over K State. Because ISU is safely in with ANY 4-team tie breaker, which is based on opponent winning percentage.
A Houston win drops BYU out of 4 team consideration⊠so then only CU, ISU and ASU are compared. The highest common opponent comparison trumps opponent winning percentage. CU beat Tech and BYU (highest common teams) so get in. ASU compared to ISU (ASU beat Kansas, ISU lost to Kansas).
Man⊠I have seen so many breakdowns, and I still dont understand. What does ISU need to happen?
ISU has the âeasiestâ path. Obviously, they need to win their game vs KState. So lets assume that happens:
BYU beats Houston, then Iowa State is in. Cut and Dry.
If Houston upsets BYU, then they need ANY ONE OF TWO significantly less likely things to happen.
So in my mind, essentially BYU NEEDS to beat Houston. Obviously ISU has to win their game in any scenario, as is the case for the other 3 contending teams. But ISU sits on top of that pile from a tiebreaker standpoint if all 4 teams win.
IOWA STATE vs KState.
ARIZONA STATE at Arizona
BYU at Houston
COLORADO vs Oklahoma State
Although ISU has the âtoughestâ game, they are significantly better off should they win than the other 3 teams that have âweakerâ opponents should they all also win. The other 3 teams need more to happen than ISU does to assure they are in the Big 12 Title Game over the other contenders.
The only real scenario that leaves ISU out if one of the contenders lose is BYU loses to Houston. ASU and Colorado can lose, and ISU is still MOST LIKELY good.
So if all 4 teams win, then Iowas state ( assuming they win) is in, which other team is in.
Correct. PROBABLY Arizona State. BYU is close behind, but they NEED ASU to lose.
Colorado needs ASU AND BYU to lose. (Edit: from their standpoint they need any two of ISU, BYU, or ASU to lose)
Thatâs the simplest explanation.
So, if both Iowa state and ASU win. Both are in, nice and clean
Not quite, ISU still needs BYU to beat Houston in that scenario lol.
As a fun side note for those watching football tonight, the weather in Ames vs KState will be basically identical to the weather in Green Bay tonight vs Miami.
Itâs cold as F. Trust me.
This will be a top 5 coldest games in Jack Trice history. Nothing to be taken lightly, itâs a pretty regular issue this time of year.
Kansas weather is relatively balmy compared to Central Iowa this time of year. Though its also pretty cold down there, they dont even have big snow removal equipment because its usually not a big issue, just shovels and leaf blowers.
Last yearâs Farmageddon was awesome in Manhattan because there was 6 inches of snow and they could just move it around, they had no way of getting rid of it lol.
iâm hoping for a BYU-ISU title game for no other reason than they both led the Big12 all season, would like to see one of them make the playoff.
iâm sure as an ISU person you know cold temps in ames, i woulda figured youâd get something colder than mid-20s; thatâs not too bad; but then iâm in Michigan; so mid-20s is no big deal.
As a northerner, itâs pretty annoying that they keep showing the real temp (27 degrees) on this broadcast.
All that matters up here is the wind chil AKA the âreal feelâ. The wind chill is actually 10 degrees in Green Bay. If the real feel was also 27 degrees, thatâs actually not that big of a deal up here. You can layer up or stay active for short spurts and be relatively comfortable in anything relatively close to freezing temp (32 degrees Fahrenheit)
Anything sub 15 degrees windchill, thereâs NOTHING you can do to avoid the pain. It sucks and it hurts, regardless of what you do or what you wear. The actual temperature and the windchill is identical in Iowa as it is Green Bay right now and for the rest of the week. In fact, itâs often generally a little windier and wet here in Iowa and slighly more intensely cold, consequently.
In general, places get more snow north of here, but it doesnt really get âcolderâ to the body in meaningful terms until you get into Canada. If youâre thinking âwhy TF would anyone want to live there, let alone play football there?â⊠well youâre not wrong. Itâs not fun. Nobody âlikesâ it.
Under Campbell, ISU focuses on recruiting upper midwest kids much more heavily largely for that very reason, though thereâs other reasons for that, too.
Before Campbell, ISU was heavily reliant on leftover/overlooked Texas and Florida kids. Campbell changed a lot of common sense things when he got here. Our recruiting pipelines being one of them.
I agree 100%. See post above.
The great lakes keep the weather somewhat more consistent and snowier, than the intensely wide open continental plains climate slightly to the west at latitude.
We donât get the snow you do, but we get more swings and short thaws, so lots of ice and re-freezes, and the sustained wind is generally 15-20 mph+ every single day. We get gusts of 40 mph+ once or twice a week regularly.
Either way, its cold though and Iâm not going to act like Michigan doesnt get cold AF also lol. You definitely get it.
EDIT: My wife is from Wisconsin and most of my family is from the Twin Cities, and they agree Iowa winters arguably suck more for these reasons. But itâs all cold, so itâs splitting hairs I suppose lol. Also itâs undeniably ugly and boring in Iowa, so winters get pretty ridiculous bonus points when you factor that in too, I think. We would vaction in Wisconsin and Michigan for the natural beauty alone LOL! Which is pretty sad when you think about it.
Yes, BYU and ISU had more âspecialâ seasons. I wish we both would have stayed 1 loss or less. Disappointing for sure.
