He’s better, but that isnt and will never be his game.
What isnt getting talked about nationally, like at all, is how much better Milan is in almost EVERY phase of the game. Now, everyone knows about the shooting; on its own its an extremely impressive achievement. But he didnt just improve on his shooting, he did it while becoming a plus defender. He went from being a very poor off-ball defender, one who routinely lacked awareness, to possibly our best.
He doesnt have the athletic ability to take full advantage these fundamental leaps but thats okay. Hes increased his volume while simultaneously reducing the number of bad shots he takes. His defensive reaction time has been excellent effectively countering the lack of natural foot speed. Hes also been very good/sneaky in driving the lane, when its there, instead of shooting the three (for him that might not always be the right decision but its sound basketball).
While Milan isnt creating shots in the stereotypical way, of using his dribble to create wide open shots, he increasingly uses it to gain access to better spots on the floor, then exploits with his killer fadeaway. Again, Milan is not an off the dribble player, but hes clearly more adept than he was previously.
Relative to his ceiling/abilities, his lone deficiency is rebounding, where his instincts/awareness have been quite poor. Given the astronomical improvements everywhere else, I can live with that (even though he could/should be better there.
Keita is single-handedly trying to sabotage BYUs season. No world exists where he shouldnt average 12-15 points, 9-11 rebounds, and 2 to 3 blocks a game. Yet here he is scoring 4 points and corralling 3 boards against mighty Oklahoma State.
I didnt watch the game but was pretty sure I would find an anemic Keita statline when checking the box score. The most underachieving player in America.
