Big12 Basketball 2025-26

Thanks.

Wright - transfer guard
Saunders - Baker
Dybansta -diomande
Transfer - bosko
Keita - transfe[/quote]

Martin Somerville was in today on a visit for the backup PG spot so they would close it down.

Looks really short on specialists and defense to me - but tough to complain. There is only 1 ball though. That’s a short lineup.

This is from memory but probably close:
Wright 6’1”
Saunders 6’4”-6’5”
Dybansta 6’9”
D Williams 6’6”
Keita 6’8”

I read an article in the The Athletic this morning. It was talking about college basketball rosters that are still one piece away from 2026 title contention. The article mentioned BYU and TT specifically and went into detail. At the bottom of the article, it mentioned other top teams with near-complete rosters: Houston, Arizona, UConn.

The Big XII is going to be absolutely brutal next year. I don’t think we’re going to be 17-1 next year.

I think our entitled friends in Lawrence are not going to be happy again next year. Maybe 5th place. But that would be an improvement on the last two years.

The top half will be brutal. I worry the bottom half gets worse

Obviously way too early, but Houston, Arizona, Kansas, tech, Iowa state, Baylor, and BYU are all investing to be elite 8 or better caliber teams. Whether that happens is another story, obviously.

I’ll shout out Cincinnati, too. They have 4 4 star or better players coming in between recruiting and transfers

It doesn’t matter how good the conference will be next year, it still will be inferior to the Sec, because ESPN will require it.

Besides the top 7.

Houston, BYU, Texas Tech, Arizona, Kansas, Baylor, Iowa State

Who are teams 8 & 9 thatd you pick from? Options:

*West Virginia
*Kansas St
*TCU
*Utah
*Cincinnati
*UCF
*Oklahoma St
*Arizona St
*Colorado

Big 12 portal outlook

Texas Tech – Great

  • 9 players on scholarship.
  • If Williams returns, this is a preseason top-7 team; without him, still likely top-15.
  • They lack a clear superstar guard, but Anderson could make a big sophomore jump as well. this team will be dangerous if that happens.

BYU – Very Good

  • 10 players on scholarship.
  • Strong foundational roster with three stars, a serviceable center, and upside pieces.
  • They’re in contention for high-impact transfers that could push them into “great” territory.

Arizona – Very Good

  • 9 on scholarship.
  • Starting lineup is mostly set, but they’ll rely heavily on 5star freshmen for scoring.
  • imo burries makes or breaks their potential

Iowa State – Good

  • 10 on scholarship.
  • Solid roster with experience and cohesion.
  • Milan Momcilovic needs to make a big leap for them to contend at the highest level.
  • You’re not hanging a banner with this group yet, but it’s competitive.

Oklahoma State – Underrated

  • 12 on scholarship.
  • Quietly one of the deeper rosters in the conference.
  • Transfers include:
    • Anthony Roy (26 PPG transfer/ only 11 games)
    • Vyctorius Miller (highly touted cousin of Mercy Miller)
    • Kanye Clary (17 PPG at Penn State before transferring to Mississippi State where benched)
    • Isaiah Coleman (15 PPG at Seton Hall)
  • Talent is there— 2nd year coaching and chemistry will be key.

Baylor – Solid Rebuild

  • 8 on scholarship.
  • For a complete roster flip, they’ve done well.
  • Still need a high-level point guard, but a competitive 7-man rotation is already forming.

Kansas – Just Okay

  • 9 on scholarship.
  • Two stars (Petterson and Bidunga), but major quality depth concerns after that.
  • Still in play for several big names that could reshape the roster.

Cincinnati – Not Bad

  • 9 on scholarship.
  • Roster has is decent. lots of good guards
  • A better coach could win with this group.
  • Still needs another big to round out the rotation.

West Virginia – Passable

  • 10 on scholarship.
  • Rotation is mostly set, but not elite.
  • Won’t win any offseason headlines, but could sneak into the top half of the Big 12 .

UCF – Meh

  • 7 players on scholarship.
  • Mustapha Thiam (if he stays) is a potential All-Big 12 center.
  • Outside of him, roster is not Big 12 caliber.
  • If Thiam enters the portal, they’re terrible .

TCU – Meh

  • 10 players on scholarship.
  • Entire roster is average or below-average.
  • Point guard from Iowa is passable, but doesn’t move the needle.

Arizona State – Pretty Bad

  • 10 on scholarship.
  • Roster mostly filled, and it lacks Big 12 talent.
  • Few intriguing players like 6’6 low-post scorer Allen Mukeba, will it translate to high major? but overall it’s a lame-duck season. Coach likely fired after the season.

Kansas State – Trash

  • 9 on scholarship.
  • Nothing stands out on paper—no notable names besides Abdi Bashir .
  • Not competitive by Big 12 standards right now.

Utah – Trash

  • 5 on scholarship.
  • 1 of them is a 21pt scorer from a bad FDU (but 6’3 and cant shoot/ is a driver) + keanu dawes and 3 unknowns .

Colorado – Rebuilding Disaster

  • 10 on scholarship.
  • No transfers (despite losing 6 players). Relying on sub-200 ranked three-star incoming freshmen players.
  • Last year’s roster got a pass due to the coach’s track record—but now they finished last place that grace is gone.
  • Hot take: Tad Boyle may be resisting NIL, which is the only explanation for two straight years of bottom-tier rosters despite making the tournament and sending three players to the NBA two years ago. he has “star player” positions open in the big 12 and can’t pick up a 15pt mid-major transfer?

Transfer Outlook

Only Kansas, BYU, Baylor, and Texas Tech seem to have realistic shots left at making landscape-changing moves in the portal. Everyone else isnt picking up an all-world transfer late .
