Big12 Basketball 2025-26

Unlike football, TNT will not promote the Big 12 conference since they also have a TV contract with the Big East. So, their pre/post game show is general college basketball talking about many schools. It’s still top quality.

It was a really nice day for the Big XII…

And then TCU. Woof!

I thought Dybantsa would have been much better defensively. First game so I’m not going to make anything of it. Just like with Harwell, Flemings, and Cenac. I’m sure playing time will push them all to improve.

Watching the UNO @ TCU game. UNO has some height.

I have a different perspective on BYU. The first is that the Villanova team is going to be good. That was a tough order right out of the gate.

mixed feelings on the bearcats game.

The good:

  • Lots of Talent
  • Better bucket getters
  • Buck Harris is a dog on defense and a relentless attacker in transition. Will lead UC in free throw attempts

The Bad:

  • Im not sure Thiam and Baba miller can play together against high level competition with Athletes. Wes is obsessed with 7 footers but I think you need to couple them with the right kind of switchable 4’s… Will Baba be quick enough?
  • Offensively it’s faster but currently sloppy and they still get in lulls that good teams will punish us for.

I will say if UC can keep drawing fouls the way they did tonight and in the exhibitions, then this team will be a problem. because they could actually turn into a 3 way scoring team which has never been the case under Wes Miller.

30 free throws last night was a big night.

Eh, let’s see how the top of the conference does. With Florida losing already and Auburn almost losing to Bethune Cookman, I think it’s safe to say the SEC isn’t as strong as last year.

Five killers right there!

I’ll disagree w/ the above part. BYU was still seen as fringe bubble pretty well into the conference season last year.

Now, IDK if I’d say they overachieved…but i certainly wouldn’t call them overrated last year.

They got their flowers toward the end of the season for sure, but I’d say deservedly so…considering that was also at worst their 2nd or 3rd best finish in the last 40 years.

Perhaps I could see how someone might think they’re overrated this year, theorically. What are they rated, like 8th in the nation? I’d say that’s about right, so I don’t share that opinion, but it’s possible. Nova played good really good IMO after a slow start.

I’m also curious about Texas Tech. They have a really good coach, serious NIL $$$ and talent.

Yeah, idk if we were over or underrated, all I know is that it’s nice to have a basketball team win games in the tournament.

Certainly a bit shaky at 1st, but that’s not completely unexpected w/ so much turnover. They key is if they gel and how long it takes.

think BYU has a bit of that too. The continuity is Saunders and Keita mixing w/ 3 new starters, and returners Baker and Boskovic coming off the bench. 4 returners, but a little more newness and adaptation to a new thing IMO than might be typical when you normally return that much quality.

That’s because newcomers like Dybantsa, Wright, and Davis are guys you are gonna want to lead a bit more and learn how to win and lose together in that context of a new likely completely reorganized whole, rather than mix in and plug holes in a way that might be more “traditional” use of even the portal or NIL.

It’s part of being in a new era so it’s gonna be more and more common, but it can be easier said than done. I don’t necessarily envy that, as a fan or as a coach. (Just look at K-State lately OMG😅, and to be in that arena 1st half yesterday must have been a REAL treat lol)

HOWEVER, The talent for both teams is off the charts and undeniable. That’s why I think the juice is probably worth the squeeze for both BYU and Tech.

However, I do think a more classic continuity model like an ISU or Houston… (w/ more $$ and bigger talent upgrades for sure. You guys literally have it all, I am merely a witness to the greatness of this CKS machine:rofl:) …feature this year is a bit overlooked and underappreciated in the climate we’re in right now. (Makes for a better offseason for sickos like us, no doubt. But the jury is still out in-season, IMO)

“Hold on, Milan… Are you… MOMMY?”

“You ARE…aren’t you!?”

“Yeaaaaah, I knew it! You’re MOMMY!”

“…Hey, everyone… that’s MOMMY!”

“…MOMMYYYYYY !!!” (*proceeds to flex so hard it collapses all matter in our galaxy into a black hole, thereby opening a wormhole in spacetime and sending us all into an alternate dimension…the ‘Mommy Dimension’)

So, it looks like TNT pregame show will be about general college basketball teams with emphasis on Big 12 teams.

Bruce Pearl doesn’t want to just talk about Big 12 teams, he wants to talk about Auburn.
