If you think about it, it’s actually a compliment. It’s admitting that the Coogs were a great team who shouldn’t have lost.

Or maybe I’m just i a good mood on a Sunday.

How is 1980 USA team listed at 19?
Easily #1. Equivalent to a middle of the pack JR national international team beating our Dream Team

It is #1. OP went from 10 to 19, instead of 10 to 1.

My thoughts are they do not belong on any Cinderella list. If memory serves and the facts that were presented are accurate, they had major injuries early in the season. They got healthy and back on the court late in the season and by time for the MM, they were at full strength. Had they been healthy, they would have been a 1 seed, most likely.

Doubt they would have been a 1 seed, but two things can be true.

  1. They were better than perceived
  2. It was one of the greatest upsets in a championship game.

They were a great team. Record did not reflect that, but by the time they reached the final, they were an excellent team and had some luck to win that game. We, on the other hand, had a few unfortunate things happen that helped us loose.

you mean like clyde getting four fouls in the first half?

as i recall, nc state had a series of miraculous comebacks to get to the finals. they might have been a great team, but they sure squeaked by a lot for a great team
