I gave my daughter a copy of “Blood and Money” by legendary Houston Press writer Thomas Thompson. It was the book about the Hill River Oaks murder.
She was so impressed with Thompson’s work she’s starting “Serpentine” this week.
If you haven’t read this remarkable piece of non-fiction I highly recommend it. In my mind it’s one of the best works of contemporary investigative non-fiction ever produced by an American author.
It is about French serial killer Charles Sobhaj and his 20 murders of tourists in southeast Asia in the 60’d and 70’s. Thompson’s research was exhaustive.
FYI if you are a fan of Houston writers.
Btw that bastard Sobhaj is living a life of leisure in France roaming free in his 80’s.

There was a competing book about the Hill murder at the time, “Prescription Murder”, written by Dr. John Hill’s mistress and second wife, Ann Kurth. I believe Tommy Thompson’s version was more objective, while Kurth’s version was more subjective. Kurth actually sued Thompson for defamation when Blood and Money was published, and lost her suit in court.

Sohbraj burned some of his victims to death. The French culture’s ability to suspend common sense in lieu of celebrity is legendary.
It’s why I never feel safe there while I do in Spain.
I liked the Serpent series on Netflix. Crazy stuff, what a diabolical person
