BOOM! Coogs land commitment from '19 Elsik DE Rason Williams II (Update: Released from NLI)

If he’s a diamond in the rough, he should be All-District as a senior.

He was not as a junior.

I think they get overlooked instead of underlooked. Speaking from experience, if someone is skinny due to a really high metabolism, it’s really hard to put on weight. You can get stronger of course, but you don’t get much heavier. Some of these kids, their metabolism doesn’t slow down til they are near their mid 20’s. So it’s a gamble because a tall skinny defensive end has no leverage against offensive tackles that are shorter and outweigh the DE by 50 to 75 lbs.

So the question they hopefully ask the kid or the parents, does he eat a lot or does he not eat that much. If he eats a lot, he probably has a high metabolism.

Can always hope he is like “The Stork”.

Don’t forget that just because they are a DE in high school does not mean that they might not be an outside LB in college or play the Rush End as we sometimes call them. I think these guys that are 6-3 or 6-4 and 220 or 230 pounds are perfect as they will put on muscle and weight in the normal maturing process, not to mention with proper eating and strength conditioning.

Rason Williams has opted out of his NLI. hopefully this does not effect Rodquice Chaney in any way.

I remember seeing somewhere that Rice had taken a pass on Williams. My sense was we offered him because we desperately needed quality at OT, we knew we had a decent shot at Chaney, and we may have thought signing his friend and teammate would get us over the hump with him. We really don’t want to lose Chaney, who had offers from Missouri and Arizona. Hopefully he’ll stick.

I don’t understand. How does a player opt out of signing a letter of intent? I thought decommitting was a verbal? What’s the point of early signing day if recruits can then opt out at a later date?

They can’t. The problem is the player’s are calling it decommitting when they are really being let out of their NLI by the Program. Just from his remarks “unfortunately my journey” tells me they let him know he wouldn’t fit in their future plans. Just my perspective on it.

Your perspective is correct. Of the “de-commits,” the only one that wasn’t about the staff telling the recruit he’d be better off looking elsewhere is Essissima. Hopefully we’re done with that and now just looking to add players. We’re looking locally as well as in Louisiana, Georgia, and Alabama. I think we’ll do well, at least in the context of a completely new staff taking over in January.

Don’t forget about Arkansas, Sam. Won’t shocked me if in the future, UH takes a stab at Florida. This staff led by CDH, doesn’t want to waste ships on players who may never played for them. Bravo, to this current staff for aiming higher in talent, than the previous one.

Before giving them props, lets make sure they fill the scholly with someone better or a bigger need. As of this moment we only have losses. Bird in hand is better than two in the bush. It is possible staff knows we will get some others, but also possible they are overconfident. We’ll know after the next month.

Ha Ha Ha! Please name a year when UH was not able to fill our available scholarships. There are always lots of prospects ready, willing and able to accept a scholarship offer. And so it is always up to the coaching staff to do the requisite leg work, build personal relationships and choose to make such offers wisely.

I always think back to when we picked up Bryce Beall and Marcus McGraw late one recruiting cycle (I believe after a coaching change). Two incredibly productive guys for us that won a ton of games that did not jump off the paper on signing day.

I believe many of these guys are victims of a change in scheme on offense and defense. We need players that will excel in the scheme and hopefully these players will at some point appreciate they were not the right fit for the scheme. This is no different than Khalil Tate flipping out about them trying to make him an option QB.

Don’t know anything about this kid, but you have to wonder what he saw in MA’s coaching staff… especially on the defensive side !

Bingo, comparing this staff to previous is night and day. Give Dana couple years to build it back up and we’ll be scary

He looks like another tweener. CDH and staff are probably focusing on needs and players who have experience in the same position they are recruiting them in. Not a lot of time to have training wheels on when there are depth issues across the board on defense.
