Chaney. His production seems low.
I donât think Alley ever got back to how bouncey he was in HS after his hip injury. Also Alley last year was just bad on offense. Teams basically left him alone from 3.
I think Chaneyâs defense will be the big add and anything on offense will be a bonus. He seems to have better overall offensive feel than Gresham but not quite as bouncey. Gresham is a high level athlete.
TS% w/o context can be overblown. TS punishes guards who donât get a ton of free throws. Lol @ AAC fans saying Mills isnât good on offense.
I think this guy is going to get a lot of garbage points for us, looks real aggressive around the rim. 6-8 points a game and his rebounding and blocking skills will be a real plus. Seems plays bigger than 6ft -8in.
Also, donât forget that our bigs are trained to grab offensive rebounds and kick it out to 3 point shooters. I believe we call it the dagger. If he can get inside and bang with the big boys, heâll either come up with rebounds or allow our guards to do so. Clean up points will be a bonus.
Not saying heâs prime Shawn Kemp or anything but he still seems reasonably athletic. That chase down block is an athletic play. I donât want to get into this thing where Iâm dogging Ced but if he was explosive it didnât really manifest itself in how he played here. Dunks from Ced were rare.
TS% is definitely not the worst measure by any stretch. Itâs just a piece but an important one (and Caleb really does need to improve his efficiency). Of course you have to account for things like usage and other variables. But Ced and Chaney were both low usage player. Chaney was drastically more efficient and his counting stats were drastically better. Iâm not totally discounting the fact that teams had to at least a little respect Cedâs range, but whether Ced was âmore skilledâ or âmore versatileâ as you claim if it doesnât translate into positive contributions that help a team win then it doesnât really matter. Chaneyâs offense at Ark helped them more than Cedâs offense helped here. Itâs not close.
Just to note, I really did like Ced, especially two years ago before it seemed like he lost some confidence, and Iâm hopeful he puts it together and can start hitting threes at a better clip to be a very productive player at UTSA.
I agree on Ced. He played hard and was really good 2 years ago. He always played hard so I didnât want to sound like I was trashing him. He just lost his confidence and got caught w/o a position since he is shooting was so bad.
I am sure we all can agree that, once Coach Sampson gets him in training, we will see a better, well developed player.
Shot blocking and rebounds are key to our game plan and Reggie looks like he could do that.
Agreed. He will make significant strides with the Coach, S&C Coach and being around guys that are all bought in.
We are not getting the 4/5 star 6â 10 guys that go to UT and other places. They want the rock and will pout if they arenât seeing the offense run through them. These one and done kids wonât do what Sampson wants and that is sacrifice for team and play 100%. These types wants stats and donât want to get injured. We will get the 6â 8 to 6â 10 developmental kids who will buy into Sampson and the team. They may not be lottery picks but with great guards you can win with that.
Reggie was a 4* and will be one once he goes through CKS, S&C Coach, playing with kids with intensity.
Alley did have some skills but I believe Chaney is a more fluid athlete. Capable of handling the ball and running the break, much better chance of finishing a dish or offensive rebound. Also a step up as far as being able to defend a bigger position. His 1.4 blocks/gm as a fr in just 16 minutes/game was very impressive.
I read on some Arkansas site that he got into a lot of foul trouble. Thatâs why he barely averaged 15 minutes per game in his two seasons. The coaching staff will have to work on him with that, but then againâŠwe foul a lot as a team. The price we pay for being so aggressive on defense. Something I donât have a problem with really.
It doesnât look like thatâs right. He averaged about 2.3 fouls per game and 6.4 fouls per 40 minutes, which is slightly lower than Gresham last year.
Brady averaged 9.7 and 9.1 fouls per 40 minutes in his two years here for comparison.
If you only account for the first two minutes of the game, Bradyâs fouls per 40 minutes was probably around 937. He could never catch a break early in the game.
Arkansas has Musselman as its new coach and he is bringing five new recruits. The writing was probably on the wall
probably more than on the wall⊠likely vocalizedâŠhe left when justin smith committed who put arkansas 1 over the limit
Agreed he was not going to see the court much. Like I said before he will get minutes here because we lack bigs. Doubt we see him and Gresham on the court together much
Now we got to get him here with coach Bishop
He is redshirting wonât play this year
