Breaking down 2019 Houston football: Special teams

What to expect: The Cougars return veterans in kicker Dalton Witherspoon and punter Dane Roy. Witherspoon took over the field-goal duties in Week 2 and went 7-of-9 (his longest from 44 yards) and a perfect 72-of-72 on extra-point attempts. Roy, who enters his fourth season as punter, averaged 42 yards and placed 22 of 60 inside the 20-yard line.

In the return game, speedster Marquez Stevenson averaged 22.4 yards on 12 kickoffs and Bryson Smith averaged 21 on six. Smith is also a candidate to handle punts; he averaged 7.8 yards on 12 punts.
