Papantonis is originally out of Glen Gardner, NJ USA and signed and played for Virginia last year. He his .250 in 12 games, 5 starts, 16 ABs. Did have 1 HR and 4 RBIs to go along with 4 walks and 7 K’s prior to transferring.
Coming out of high school, he was the 125th ranked player in the nation and 25th best shortstop by Perfect Game. He was a 2017 3rd Team All-American as a senior.
Papantonis had a particularly arduous trip from that first camp to Signing Day, all because of football. But he remained loyal to Virginia, and said, “UVa as a school, I really enjoyed.”
Papantonis had a total meniscus repair in his right knee, then, during rehab, had ulnar nerve transposition in his elbow — and another meniscus surgery. He tore the anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in his left knee in the fall of his senior year, which kept him off the baseball field as well.
