Can we beat Rice?

Yeah, I’ll give him credit for beating rice 95% of the time. Something that other coaches had trouble doing here.

Huh? He was 2-1 against rice. Try 66% of the time and if he had stayed it would have been 50% and falling.

I thought he faced them more than that. Either way, I’ll accept that, with how those matchups at Rice have been.

We need to be extremely aggressive on defense and get off the field quickly. We cannot allow them to crawl their way down the field and chew up the clock. That’s a recipe for disaster for our offense who had trouble clicking against SFA

According to theScore, Coogs are favored by -12.5

There is a talent gap between the two teams beginning with QB.

Houston has to play their top defense which will wear down Rice and make them start throwing when they start to fall behind. Weigman will open up the field and cause problems for Rice. Rice only scored 14 against Louisiana.

If we can make thmhave go pass, i like our chances to create some turnovers. But maybe we can cause some miss pitches during the run game

That was Dana’s modus operandi…

Come out without an unprepared gameplan (is that an oxymoron)…

And then make adjustments and make it a close loss…

I will say that he did make in game adjustments well…

Rice is no contest.

Last season really gave some fans PTSD, rightly so, that we are questioning if we can beat the nerds. Any other year, we’d be asking by how much will we beat them by. Maybe even Vegas has PTSD, 12 points?

Never forget Houston at Navy 2016. That was a long bus ride back to the parking lot. Mostly white uniformed women laughing about the game.

I think we were on the same bus to the offsite parking lot.
I remember it was like a school bus instead of a coach bus.

I remember it was a wet rainy game.

Can you record games on ESPN+? I won’t be able to go to the Rice game or watch it live. Yeah, I know but this season I have a couple of church related obligations I can’t miss short of filing for divorce.

If you can watch the game live on + you should be able to see it on ESPN on Demand. We attended the UH game, then watched it later that night and again some of it the next day. I also watched the Rice game on Demand.

My key to UH beating Rice is how UH’s defense adjusts to Rice’s new “Choice Gun” offense. Put aside UH’s defense against SFA. This is an option based offense that the QB reads and reacts. As with most triple option offenses, the defense has to be very disciplined in the assignments.

This will be a very good test for Austin Anderson’s defense.

I remember watching Hatfield’s triple option at Rice. The backs would run shoulder to shoulder and create a mass of bodies at the line of scrimmage. Then, one player would scoot out of the pile and be downfield before anyone realized he had the ball. It was funny to watch.

Given that Fritz has lengthy experience with this type of offense at Sam and Georgia Southern, I think we win this one handidly
