Towson leading 5-0 Liberty…
Rutgers is really bad…
towson’s only issue is they can’t seem to get it together in their conference tourney but wth has been going on with liberty since they fell off a cliff after 2021 lol
I knew they are bad when you cannot even get to NCAA tournament with two top 5 picks then the coach is not what you want.
Lot of respect for Greg McDermott and the Creighton Jays. Not a great start for them, but the bones are good as any. Here’s some key points that make them a challenge for ISU.
-
Creighton beat ISU in our 1st exhibition in Omaha, 71-58. The game wasn’t really even that close, either.
-
Like that exhibition, NO Tamin Lipsey today.
-
Creighton really spaces the floor and finds shooters. They will take what is there and find the open man. That’s the blueprint against Otzball style of defense.
-
McDermott gave TJ his 1st job. Tons of familiarity, he knows what makes TJ tick (besides kids-sized polos). That’s how TJ ended up an Iowa Stater in the 1st place.
-
Creighton hit 11 threes last game. Stat of the day: Creighton has made 6 or more 3pt FGs in 64 STRAIGHT GAMES. They will never shy away, they will shoot themselves out of this early season slump eventually. It’s only a matter of time.
-
Tho TJ is a McD protégé, their defensive philosophies are pretty different. Creighton plays ball screens about as different from ISU and UH as you can imagine. They play a sagging drop coverage on ball screens that actually invites guards into the middle, but the big and recovering guard kind of take away in front and behind you. They will give you 1st action pull up 15-20 footers all day… but they close off outlets, cutters, and direct line dribble drives to the basket while doing it. Their bigs are always really good at kind of owning that space in the paint without overcommitting to anything. They aren’t really trying to shut you down, so much as they are trying to bother and frustrate you. No 3s, no layups. All the low percentage low-reward contested shots you are willing to take.
-
Very differnt style than we all are used to that is kind of a metrics/moneyball/NBA approach. Nobody in the Big 12 plays like that, except maybe BYU to an extent. So it’s tough to prepare for on a one day turnaround. Caused ISU all sorts of problems in the Exhibition game (FWIW, Flemdawg would probably the type of guard you’d want against it @Kyle_Be_Coogin)
Yea, I can see why Tennessee blew them out yesterday. Notre Dame is handling them pretty easily right now.
Nice breakdown… I like Creighton with Lipsey out but I’m pulling for y’all!
That’s fair.
You off work today!?!?!
Running at lunch… but about to work from my couch with ISU game on my 75"…
JMO, but Notre Dame Basketball is kind of never any fun. If they quit playing basketball, I wouldn’t really mind.
They are fairly good sometimes, but I feel like we can all do without them. They wouldn’t really be missed.
Sure, but I think a person could say that about just about every team except for their fans.
Nobody would care at all if BYU got rid of sports except BYU fans.
My arch-nemsis. The foil to my joy…
The ****** Cougar!
(With all due respect ![]()
)
I mean, I’ll watch a Fort Wayne v. Youngstown St on ESPN+ like it’s the Bird Magic Celtics and Lakers…
So idk if I’d go that far. I’d rather watch Rutgers and DePaul lay bricks and dribble it off their feet than an above average ND.
And idk why. Just something about their whole basketball vibe.
(Still hot take season)
It’s gotta be the Houston Coogar. BYU hasn’t earned that respect yet.
Not sure I’ve ever watched a notre dame basketball game, to your point
Well at the risk of alienating my audience here, I think BYU has a better record head to head w/ my squad than Houston does. (since joining Big 12)
But I had both in mind when I said that. Cheers to the back-to-back Champs🏆
Haralson, Burton and Shrewsberry are pretty entertaining…
Shot Clock!
