As much as I hate Dallas, SMU deserved to get in. Clemson really stole Alabama’s spot with that 56 yd FG.
I agree with Saban that the rankings don’t make sense. Texas has the easiest path. Oregon got screwed as the #1 seed.
Seedings should be based on final ranking, not conference championship games.
Poverty state teams (i.e. LSU, Bama, Auburn, Ole’Miss, Miss State) are going to really feel the impact of NIL. Maybe Arkansas too? That’s 5-6 SEC teams. They’ve built their media success on the backs of t-shirt fans that can’t afford to pay for their rosters. No disrespect to those hardworking folks, but those are the facts.
12 is the real issue. You have 16 teams and it answers a lot of the angst and it allows for a real seeding meaning an Oregon does not get “shafted” like they did this time around. This would allow four more spots with one more sec team and at least one more BIG12. 16 is the right number. Friends do not discount ASU. They are on a roll. Let’s all hope they keep the same form.
Alabama losing by 21 points to Oklahoma late in the season was their demise.
Bama fans rooting against SMU wasn’t something I expected on my 2024 bingo card.
Disagree. Seedings reward championships. If you want to get a higher seed and a bye, win your conference.
What Saban wants is byes for SEC and BIG schools.
Oh you’ll be seeing Stinky, lobbying real hard for 16 next iteration of the CFP.
A big swath of the southern US with a lot of college football fans from east Texas through Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida didn’t make the playoff this year. Will be interesting to see if this trend continues in future years.
The 3 SEC teams that made it- 2 are in the periphery of the conference footprint and in growing/desirable areas (UT/Tennesse), and Georgia is right by the biggest city in the south - Atlanta.
espn trying hard to make the case that bama should be in. You can be sure the sec commish is on the phone right now.
No, he wants the top teams like Oregon playing the weaker teams in the first/second round, as it should be.
Head to head Alabama rolls over SMU…we all know that.
ASU and SMU made the playoffs with younger coaches and innovative offenses.
Yet we hire a guy who forces a run game with no decent OL and have QB issues.
Just stop it! Find a way to go out of your way shot at the Coogs. We are in the middle of a complete rebuild. We just signed two stud offebsive lineman and redshirted one last year. Pancake Hunter will be back next year. Next years team will gave vast improvement at QB. Running the ball to set up the pass works. We saw some glimplses of it in the last game ht Baraby calling plays. Fritz and the new OC have had sucess running this offesne at Tulane.
See your point. I’d reseed 1-4 based in final matchups, but would still give conference champions byes.
Essentially , the four teams still receive byes, but reseed them such that Oregon in this case receives the most favorable path
ASU was picked just like us to be last in the conference.
With only 1-2 teams making the CFP from the Big 12 most years, we need to have a prolific passing offense to compete.
Looking at some of these playoffs teams, we will not be competitive if we try to play our grind it out run game if we want to win.
Teams like Georgia, Notre Dame, Ohio State can do it since they can win the trenches but it will takes years for UH to get these types of linemen.
How do you know that? You are making an assumption. Again, live games are not video games. Reserve your judgement until late in the season.
When was the last time UH was competitive team without a prolific passing offense other than the Veer days?
Our success during the Briles, Sumlin, Herman, Holgorsen years needed a high level passing game.
ASU didnt have a coach fired that was lazy and not taking recruiting seriously, then when hired the new coach majoriry of roster left. Then the new coach had to hit the portal and recruits late. This past week was his first legit recruiting class. That recruiting classs ranking is much better then the previous coach and the portal about to open. Our situation was not the same as ASU going into the season and not a valid comparison.
There is a first for everything tcoog.
Arky has Jerry jones plus Wmt backing them. I think they’ll be okay. They probably have to get rid of pitman but that’s another story.
Auburn is rich. They should be okay.
Ole Miss and Miss St, I think they will not fair too well
LSU I also think won’t fair well either.
Bama, I’m still undecided but Saban did see the writing on the wall and said: I can’t coach this sh**
