Chinedu

Chinedu is still the basketball host but UH “decided to go in a different direction” for the football host position… so someone decided what we now have is better.

I’m not gonna speculate on who or what made UH “Go in another direction”.

Sucks that this admin keeps fixing things that aren’t broken but won’t fix the things that are broken

Yeah, this was a downgrade.

There are more important things to worry about in this world, but replacing the UH game host for football is not one of them.

For the record, I prefer Chinedu than The Screecher.

Much prefer Chinedu. Lame move by our athletics department.

+1 for bringing him back. I hope whoever is in charge of that decision knows we miss him! Local celebrity!

I do not miss Chinedu one bit. His schtick was ok once but got painfully unfunny really fast. It felt at times like he thought we were at his comedy show, not a football game, and his ad reads for the vendors kinda took the air out of the place if there was anything remotely interesting happening on the field.

IMO, an in-game host should blend into the background, and the new girl, whose name none of us remember, does a better job of that. I don’t think we had one at all at last year’s TCU game, and the gameday experience was better for it.

You think they hire them to call the Masters? Lol

They’re hiring someone to provide “hype”. Blending in like old furniture isn’t that.

I do not need an in game host. Let the bands play with an occasional DJ jam. Show scores and highlights from other games. And stop killing every timeout with honoring something for a $200 pledge.

They’re hiring someone to provide hype, yes, but that generally means getting people excited about the game, not about the host themselves. Their job is similar to those of the PA announcer, DJ, etc.

You can get loud and get the crowd into it without making it about yourself. Chinedu failed spectacularly at that.

Most regular attendees will agree with you. I’d rather not have them either, but if they’re gonna be out there, they need to add something. I guess this DJ/host thing is to keep the casuals interested or something.

I think our game presentation relied on them too much, so maybe that’s the “different direction”, which is fine.

There are so many commercials and semi-audible announcements crammed into every stoppage that they rarely leave time for the band(s) to do anything. And almost none of what they’re doing brings any life to the crowd.

Does the host make the game script? or do they just do what they are told.

A lot of the host job is advertising. If you did not know the Whataburger trashcan toss, and Lewis’ Jewelers diamond thing are paid for with sponsor money.

The new girl needs to slow down and they need to adjust her mic there were a few things that last game that I had trouble understanding.
