Lamar after getting destroyed in the WAC for 1 year, is going back to the Southland where they probably have a better chance to win
Lamar isnt Sam Houston, Stephanie F, Abilene Christian quality.
They’re basically Nicholls St
Kind of surprising giving it just one year. In BB you can begin to build with one decent player each year. How do you recruit now at a lower level?

The WAC imploded. Chicago State quit the league. Sam and NM State got a call up to CUSA. I think Southern Utah joined the Big Sky.

The issue is 6 of those schools don’t currently play football.
If I’m Lamar, I’d much rather play McNeese, SeLa, and NW State than Incarnate Word, Utah Tech, and Tarleton.

Alvin’s 4 years at Lamar
2-27

He’s under .500 but looks to be on the right track.
Good luck CAB!

So, the lesson that this teaches is the following: Sampson’s system/philosophy IS exportable!

Happy for Houston Wheatley and Lamar University alumni Alvin Brooks.
No, Sampson’s system/philosophy isn’t exportable at least not for Alvin Brooks.
In Brooks’ five years as UH head coach his combined winning percentage was .391. In his four years as Lamar’s head coach his combined winning percentage is .397.
Still, I wish him well.

Kind of all a matter of the trajectory continues upward as it has been. If it continues to be 20 win seasons then you would proven wrong if it regresses to the first two seasons then you would be right.
Right now it’s two crap seasons and two pretty good seasons.

That was before he had a chance to apprentice under Sampson.
After mastering Sampson’s system, he was able to successfully export it to Lamar.
After “mastering Sampson’s system”, a .397 winning percentage at Lamar is successful??? I guess expectations must be exceedingly low at Lamar.

Ya gotta look at the PROGRESSION.
And EVERY new coach, even Sampson at UH, is entitled to one freebie sucky first season.
Throw his first at Lamar out on that basis.

I’m curious to see if CAB can get his kids playing as hard as our Coogs. Literally every coach preaches toughness but none bring it out quite like CKS
Last year his team ranked 86th in Defensive efficiency. Thats solid
Its a difficult job. Haven’t watched them a ton. But when he took them over, they were a disaster.

I am guessing they could be a favorite in the Southland next season.

He took over a program that was in the dumpster. Each year, his leading scorer has transferred to a bigger school, thanks to NIL. Yet, they’ve gotten better each year. Last year lost to Will Wade and McNeese at McNeese in the final, in a hard fought loss, where Will Wade had a million dollar pay roll vs Lamar’s 50k payroll. Stop the hate and ignorance
