If Kellen becomes HC at UH, what schools does he consider if they come knocking? Oklahoma? Coach Kelvin is old enough that moving to another school is cumbersome, any negotiations now seem to be less about Coach Kelvin leaving for another job, but to keep him from retiring or to keep Kellen from leaving.

In another three years, Sampson will be closing in on 900 wins for his career. If so, heāll surpass Adolph Rupp and Dean Smith and it will place him within striking distance of Roy Williams and Bob Knight.

Maybe I can split with CKS with my Southwest Companion pass for him to go recruiting.
For 3+ years, weāve hand a handful of posters who have been positive Sampson was retiring ASAP, and bring it up over and over. If you actually watch and listen to CKS, I have no idea how any of them came to that conclusion, other than just looking at his birth year and/or being perpetual Eeyores.
Ive been saying since the Miami loss, CKS would be here at least 5 more years. Unless there is (god forbid) some health issue that comes up with CKS or Karen, CKS is here for at least 3 more years.
There could be some other unforeseen circumstance, but CKS is as sharp as ever, from every account he loves what he is doing, we are finally recruiting at a level we never have, he gets to work with his family, he isnāt going anywhere. Maybe winning it all would change that, which we would all gladly take.
But the doomsayers have always been incredibly misinformed, thinking every year that this was CKSā last year.

He loves teaching and he loves winning. I kind of think the thing that will nudge him to retire will be that heās ready to step aside for Kellen or he starts seeing more attrition from his assistants moving on. Heās having fun and he has a great set-up, and he worked too long to get there to just walk away from it.

Theyāve been working on this for over a month. Eddie was told that there were issues last time UH negotiated Sampsonās contract, and he wanted to get ahead of it before any issues could arise. Heās been working with Kelvinās agent since mid-March on a new deal, including better money for the staff.

Part of the retiring aspect is to get Kellen his promotion. So the factors would not be to solely hang it up, but to pass the torch sooner rather than later.

Youāre gonna be a young coach in the Big12. Its a tough ass conf & teams at the top are spending Big NIL for players, as are we.
We would all love no drop-off, from Kelvin to Kellen. But in most cases thereās a drop off. So whatās the rush for a coaching change

I see Sampson as someone that wants to coach as long as he is healthy. He has built a great program from scratch, and gets to run it all his way. He seems as driven as ever.
