Compared to prior Houston coaches, Applesauce

inherits a Rolls Royce.

New stadium
Renovated lockerroom
Brand new IPF

No coach has started with better facilities.

Houston sold over 23,000 season tickets last year. Even if you assume that 3K were scalpers looking to make a buck on the OU and Louisville games, no Houston coach has ever started with a 20K season ticket base before.

Then there’s the roster.

Generally, Houston returns all but 10 seniors on a team that has won 22 games the last two years. Best 2-year win total in school history. Major inherits a team that has learned how to win.

Specifically, Houston has several former National Top 300 recruits on the roster next year. Perhaps as many as 8 or 9. No Houston coach has ever started with that many star recruits.

I can’t imagine a better situation for a first time Houston coach. Have fun driving the Rolls, Major.

Don’t wreck it.

Great message until the last sentence.

I don’t think he will wreck it.

He’s worked under Saban, Brown, Graham and Herman. The dude is well-trained for the job.

Plus, the Texas HS coaches love him. He’s a great recruiter.

As a player, he was a scrapper who made the most of everything he had. If that translates into his coaching, he will be very successful here.

Agree. It’s a great situation to be stepping into.

I noticed a blurb on Patrick Carr while looking for something on the 247 site. Checked it out, and it dawned on me how many of our players have really good offers compared to the Briles and Sumlin and Levine years. I can remember a LB choosing between us and Texas State about a decade ago. I specifically remember the 2006 class didn’t have a single player with a then-BCS school offer. I won’t name everyone, but including the incoming class (which is hopefully intact) here’s where we are today:

QB
Kyle Allen-Alabama, Ohio State, Notre Dame
Bowman Sells-Texas, Ohio State, Clemson
D’Eriq King-Clemson, UCLA, Michigan State

RB
Duke Catalon-Texas, OK State
Mulbah Car-Nebraska, BYU
Patrick Carr-Arkansas, Arizona State, TCU
Daniel Young-Texas, Nebraska

WR
Marquez Stevenson-Notre Dame, Baylor, TCU
Rashaad Samples-Oklahoma, Ohio State, Texas
Jeremy Singleton-Arkansas, Arizona State
Keith Corbin-Ole Miss, Nebraska, Wisconsin

OL
Josh Jones-Nebraska, OK St
Na’ty Rodgers-Ole Miss, TCU, AZ St
Matt Huhn-Michigan, OK St
Jam Eloph-TCU, Georgia Tech

Haven’t even gotten to Big Ed and the defense

The fact that he was a scrapper as a player gives me reason to believe he is going to be a great hire. He has never really had anything handed to him. He has had to work hard for everything in his career.

Maybe his new Coog nation nickname should be Scrapper.

Scrapperwhite!!!

nicely done, Sam…

That kid we got from the Juco ranks, DL, is pretty good. Big Ed will have help. Secondary matures as well, particular Winchester. That’s not even mentioning what a bowl win would mean recruiting wise. UH has two nice new facilities coming soon. One (practice field) is being constructed right now, and the football coaches building is about to break ground soon, also. UH is also a brand name now.

And its good thst others see the value in our recruits. But never forget that Case’s class of 2-star recruits was playing major league ball by their senior year.
